Repair shop just replaced spark plug/coils #1, 2 and 3. Immediately after the repair and now (few days later) there is high idle. Comes down to 900 rpm when warm but that is about 200 to 300 higher than what it used to be. On roads the car will "idle" at 30 to 35 MPH! Also, when I brake and come to a stop the car lunges on its own and RPMs increase momentarily by about 300 RPM! Dangerous on ice. Repair shop says the computer needs to "re-learn" itself. What do I do with this now-dangerous vehicle?
There is no relearn procedure when replacing an ignition coil
That shop has no idea how to work on a Lincoln LS
I have a 2004 V8
Most are V6 so I assume they removed the intake to do
the coils 1 thru 3 & now you have a vacuum leak
Very sloppy work, they never smoke tested the intake to
confirm their work
In 9 years I have never had to do a single relearn on mine
Relearn is something you have to look up & do before you
give the car back. It is not the owners responsibility to do
I would say you have to give the shop one time to resolve
Personally any shop that bad I would stay clear of

change tranny fluid with mercon v also can add friction modifier (ford part# m-19546-a) and be sure to drain torque converter as well. should fix ya

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.

This sounds like you have a pcv hose that has become an open vacuum leak. It is located under the upper intake, or given the year your air filter box may not be correctly sealed and possibly have a mass air flow sensor concern. Any Check engine light or codes to work with ? I f you have further questions just leave a comment on my page,

first check the fluid level in the radiator not the overflow, check when cold, get back to me sounds like your low on coolant have it checked for a leak. Ray

Thank you very very much. Yes, they removed intake plenum to do work and replaced the gaskets. When he said computer needs to relearn, he meant that computer needs time to relearn on its own. Nothing for me to do. I have good relationship with this shop so this will be a bummer.
PS - No codes any more as replacing the plugs/coils eliminated all codes.
Again I own the car it needs no relearn at all for what they did I explained I have never need a relearn on mine in 9 years for any kind of work or the battery disconnected Have to know the car & it's strategy They put the problem in there should be easy to get it out
