Something still running when engine shut off

I have a 2001 Toyota Sienna XLE with about 192k miles on it. Yesterday the ABS light went on during my drive to work. When I left work and walked to my car there was a loud humming noise coming from it. Opening the hood, I could not locate the exact source of the noise, but it sounds like a loud fan or quiet pump. It seems to be coming from the drive side, towards the rear of the engine compartment, under the air filter housing. It is NOT one of the fans behind the radiator. Anyway, the noise gets much louder when the engine is on, and I can feel the vibrations of it through the brake and accelerator pedals. Since it won't shut off when the engine is off, it drained my battery overnight. The noise started again immediately as soon as I hooked jumper cables to my battery today. Had to charge it 20 minutes to start the engine. Can't find a picture of the suspected part in my Haynes manual, but it may be in the correct location for the ABS electric hydraulic pump. Can't confirm it. Tried pulling fuses, nothing affected it. Any input would help.

Check your brake pads first,as they have a wear warning clip on them.so if you hear a loud screaming noise. Then its quite possible they have worn causing ur warning lights to come on.And i would get anouther quote as that is quite dear for a pump replacement. If it is the pump.good luck pippall!!

SOURCE: 1993 Toyota Camry V6: Engine Overheating Prob

Yes if it hydraulically operated it could be because the pump for the fan is bad. If I am not mistaken the fan is run off of the power steering pump correct. check and make sure the pump is working correctly. I have not seen a hydraulic motor on a car I know they put them on a lot of diesel trucks like humvees and some Chevy diesels but not on a car. Most are usually electrical. I know on humvees with a hydraulic fan they have a fan controller check this and make sure it is working right you can unplug the controller and the fan should stay ingaged and turn faster.

SOURCE: 2004 Sienna where is fuse located for parking/night running light

The fuse block is located under the left side of the dash. The 10amp fuse you're looking for is the second from the bottom on the right side. It should be marked Tail. Hope this helps.

2006 Toyota Sienna XLE: Traction control is triggering for no apparent reason

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Antilock brake system.TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module

I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna. Had the oil and filter changed yesterday and brought the car home. When I started the car this morning, the check engiine light, VSC and Trac Control light came on. I have...

I'd get the car back to who changed the oil and have them run the check engine code. If they are interested in customer service, I'd think they'd do that for free.

With the code, can better determine the risk. While I'd not consider a VSC/Trac Control critical (we ahve all driven cars for years with out it), the addition of the check engine light could mean bigger problems. I'd also be more concerned if it was an ABS brake fault or brake light that was lit.

VSC and engine light on

The Trac light comes on automatically, in conjuction with the Check Engine Light. You need your vehicle scanned for DTC codes.
