Checked bulb by switching to permenant on on switck on light housing. but does not work when set to door and tailgate or glass is lifted. Where is the switch to close circuit when back is opened.

Try to reset the tailgate by removing the no.7 (7.5 amp) fuse in the underdash fuse box. Open and close the tailgate manually, reinstall the fuse, and try the open tailgate button. Filament gets fractured, possibly by vibration of the roof lining. I have replaced mine 4 times and while the bulb looks OK it is high resistance, buy a few bulbs and replace them when it occurs.

Look at the top of the headlight assembly. There is a plastic panel on top of the assembly that is held in place by two plastic pins. Remove those pins by lifting the center of the pin and then pull out the pin. Remove the panel. Then you will find two small plastic levers that will lift about 1/2 inch. They do not come out but they will release two studs that secure the assembly. After the assembly is released, slide it forward to access the bulbs you need to replace. Installation is the reverse of these procedures.
