My Audi A4 2001 petrol keeps cutting out either when driving or when stopped out of gear. The engine management light is usully on though another EPC light comes on and usually cuts of the engine straight away. Sometimes the car starts again quickly and other times it could take up to 1 hour. Any ideas..
Get it to the dealer or a specialist auto electrician and find out why the engine management light is on. That and the other warning light is telling you there is a significant problem with the engine!! Not dealing with it WILL cost you a LOT of money!!

how is the oil level and pressure?, how many miles on engine? is this a loud knock or rather a clatter/ticking noise? knock is engine rod or crankshaft bearings, clatter loud ticking is valve follower noise. how long before it (the noise) goes away?

PRISE OUT THE TRIM PANEL AT THE BASE OF THE ARMREST WITH A FLAT-BLADED TOOL UNDO 2 SCREWS(DRIVERS DOOR) SINGLE SCREW ACCESSIBLE THOUGH THE ARMREST ON PASSENGER SIDE ,NOW GO TO THE BASE OF THE DOOR TRIM UNDO THE SCREW IN THE CENTRE,ONTO THE TOP TRIM NOW ABOVE THE RELEASE HANDLE,STARTING AT THE FRONT EDGE(DOOR HINGE SIDE) CAREFULLY PULL THE TRIM PANEL AWAY FROM THE DOOR TO RELEASE THE CLIPS,THEN SLIDE IT TO THE FRONT TO UNHOOK THE REAR EDGE OF THE TRIM PANEL,UNDO THE 4 SCREWS YOU CAN SEE,UNHOOK CABLE FROM REAR OF INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE,DISCONNECT WIRING PLUGS SPEAKER ,WINDOW MOTOR CONTROL UNIT AND THERE YOU HAVE IT ..EASY... IF YOU START NOW YOU WILL HAVE IT FINISHED IN 2 DAYS...ONLY JOKING....SHOULD TAKE 1 HOUR..HOPE THIS WILL BE OF SOME HELP TO YOU...LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GOT ON

ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM ( ESP) LIGHT FLASHES TO INDICATE UNSTABLE DRIVING CONDITIONS....WHICH WILL ALSO COME ON IF YOUR ENGINE IS MISFIRES.. CHECK THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS FIRST THEN GO FOR FUEL..INJECTORS...FUEL FILTER CHOKED..HOPE I WAS OF SOME HELP TO YOU..

Is the engine management light on? Are there any fault codes?
Power lose while driving is most likely to be caused by the mass air flow meter, leak at a vacuum or intake hose, turbo leak etc.

Hmmm, this sounds what is happening to me now. Recently, it stalled as I was exiting the freeway and just now on my way to work. Luckily, the second time it started and managed to move to side. First time, I had it to have it towed.
Now both Check engine and EPC lights are on!
Anyone know what MAY be wrong????
