I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 extended cab. The battery died after sitting for about a week, the battery was dead (battery is about 6 months old) . Hooked up jumper cables and iterior and dash lights came on. Turned the key and all lights went out. I heard a clicking sound from behind the dash near the steering column. Disconnected the jumper cables for a few minutes and all lights came back on. But, once again when I turned the ignition key, all lights went out. It's like tripping a cicuit breaker. any ideas?

Took the battery to the parts store. They tested it and it was dead, so swapped me out with a new one and it fired right up. Something in the system is draining the battery. Doubt just a week without running the truck would kill it. I gave a quick look over of wiring, but don't see anything. Fuel pump ground wire was disconected from the ground, so reconnected it.

check under the fuse box located under the hood,MICE like to set up camp under it,,and the wires there make for a nice snack to them, some of the wires then can make contact with each other and cause battery drain, had the problem in my 2002 silverado, check it soon before the thing catches fire

I don't know why my comment came through as capeetain instead of Karl but anyway try looking there, also do you have anything plugged in @ dash outlets,i.e. radar det.,or a GPS?

Only thing I had left connected was a brake controller for camper. It's plugged into the panel under the dash. I removed it. This happened one other time about 6 months ago. Like I said, on my 1st look at wires in the engine compartment and along the frame, I didn`t find anything except the one ground wire disconnected. I'll look again as soon as I get a chance.

This may sound too simple, but first verify that you are getting voltage to the light socket. Use meter on d.c. If you are getting voltage, and your bulb is good, it could be a bad ground. Don't overlook the brake light system goes through the directional signal in the steering column.

i just changed my unit on drivers side door man it was a pain well first it started off with not going at all i thought it was the motor but motor was good the wire was just getting hung up because the plastic piece broke on the track,so first disconnect motor from track and hit switch to see if it turns, and if not then replace motor,be careful not to loosen the cable.you almost need it exact tension for the track to work right.

Without taking the tilt mechanism off you can only reach 2 of the 3 bolts. If you use 1/4 in. socket on 1/4 in drive with 6 in extension you can just get at the left bolt. If you remove the tilt spring you can get to the bottom bolt. To remoce tilt spring retainer use standard Phillips.

If you are sure the battery is good (6 months old doesnt matter, it may in fact be bad, ESPECIALLY if its a delco or duralast or some other low quality line) and the car slow cranks and then must sit before attempting again, you almost certainly have high resistance somewhere. Usually on GMs its bad sidepost bolts, or bad battery cables (under the insulation white corrosion and crude rot and infect the copper causing resistance) clean and tighten all cables. Starter may also have internal resistance that is the beginning of a total failure. CHECK BATTERY 1ST THOUGH! 90% of slow cranking problems are bad batteries, or starters thatwere damaged by being cranked too long and often with a bad battery (Yes, thats very bad for the starter!)

Maybe the main Ignition relay in your fuse box or on the firewall. Faulty relay can cause intermittent no-power situations.
