Recommended type of struts for 2000 Toyota Avalon

I am going to have all 4 struts replaced on my 2000 Avalon. Any recommendations?

  • amyfre Feb 05, 2009

I note that Monroe makes a Sensa-Trac strut that costs about $30 more each than their gas ones. Would you still recommend the gas ones? I would rather buy the gas ones since they are cheaper, just want to make sure that I get whatever will last for a long time and if I have to spend more $ to do that I will. Please let me know!

    Thank you!!

II have found over the years that a company called MONROE makes a very high quality strut (around $50 each) and have never had a problem with them, they come in a gas charged strut cartriage and this is what u want, there are others out there but many like BILSTIEN that ride really rough and cost around $100 each

I would always go with the gas charged, they make the car handle better, good for tire wear and last the life of the car in most cases.

2000 Toyota Avalon - when you press the brake the light on the dash comes on and indicates a problem with the tail light. Checked all the bulbs, working fine. Replace two with new ones, light still on. ...

Make sure you are using the correct bulb numbers per manufactures recommendation. Diff types of bulbs even though they fit and light up will give light monitor false readings. You may have a malfunctioning light monitor which I have seen on a few of these models.

Dealer says that I need to replace right rear strut. Noise generated when going over a rough road. The dealer cost is 700.00. This sounds high to me. I've changed struts on vw's before. Is it...

This is in the realm of DIY but you will definitely need a spring compressor if this is in fact a strut-type assembly. The coil springs are under a great deal of tension and disassembling them without the compressor can be lethal. It is known that Toyota parts and service can be costly but if you intend on doing your own service, I highly recommend you invest ~$25 in a service manual for your car. These can be had on line:
Avalon Service manual
or at auto parts stores.
