Do it yourself brake and power steering fluid flushing/change

not really needed unless you have had a major failure with either system...its a gimick alot of shops use to make quick money with uneeded repairs

their job is to sell work.however its a good idea to have the brake fluid flushed and the fuel system cleaned.the power steering fluid you don`t have to have flushed,you can if you choose to.you don`t have to have it done at a dealership and it will not void any warranty,if you have extended.

I would recommend spark plugs every 30K, Trans. fluid and filter change every 60K, Brake fluid flush every 100K. I usually only flush the power steering fluid if yhere has been a component failure causing fluid contamination. Coolant should be flushed every 5 years or 100K, and rear differential fluid changed every 30K. I have several of these cars come in my shop with 200-300K miles. They can be very reliable if maintained properly.

power steering flush antifreese flush brake fluid flush check pads thickness replace belts oil change change transmission fluid check ac charge and check for fluid leaks check the timing replace timing belt check lights check the shocks struts check tire pressure and thickness

Unless you have a record of these fluids being changed in the past 18 months you should definitely change them. These fluids will degrade over time and need to be changed at appropriate intervals.
You should also flush the engine radiator and cooling system and replace with new coolant to the manufacturer's specs unless this has been done in the past 18 months.
Also ensure you change the engine oil and filter frequently (certainly more frequently than the manufacturer maximum interval specs which is based on optimum driving conditions which does not reflect reality.)

Frequent fluid changes = cheap preventative maintenance.

Brake fluid - every 2 years minimum
Clutch fluid - every 2 1/2 years minimum
PS fluid - every 3 years
Coolant flush and change - every 2 years
Engine oil - every 3500-4000 miles or 5 months minimum whichever is sooner
Oil filter - every second oil change.

depending on how bad the injectors are you can put some Lucas fuel treatment in your gas tank and it will clean them up for you. I use it every other fill up and have had no problems. My avalanche has 88,000 miles and I have never had injector problems. The power steering flush and brake flush you will need a vacuum pump.

Brakes: Locate the bleeder valve on each caliper and hook up your vacuum pump to it and pump it 4-5 times. Make sure your fluid reservoir is full. Put clean fluid in reservoir as needed. Repeat this again. ON bake brakes you will want to give it a few more pumps than the front because they are farther away from the master cylinder. You will need 2 of the small bottles of brake fluid or 1 large bottle. Sorry, I dont remember the oz. on each size.

Power steering: place a hose into the reservoir and pump all fluid out. Turn wheels all the way both ways and repeat twice. You will need several courts of power steering fluid.

Change the Power Steering Fluid. While change the fluid, do a flushing with a cheap one first to clean out all the muddy from old fluid then you can see the pump is working or not (with the engine on). After flushing with the cheap fluid, drain it out and put in the correct fluid.

Somewhere along the lines something other than PS fluid was put in there...More than likly a high deteregent fluid (at fluid, brake fluid). Somepeople have done this for a quick fill....which can ultimately lead to wear and tear of seals overtime they will deteriate into the fluid makeing it discolored then it will slightly burn giving it a darker color and funny smell..If this is not the case where no sub was added to the resivoir, then something is falty in the power stearing pump mechinisim..Or if you race the car on a track with high turns excessive use can also lead to a break down in the fluids make up....make sure on the next change to fully drain out all old fluid and flush it with a half qt of new fluid b4 you refill with new...Hope this was helpful for you...
