Hard starting rough idle then dies. got it to rev up to 3500 then fell on its face and died

I have a 1995 Saturn sl1 automatic. Last Monday when i took the car to work i had huge idling problems. When i came to a stop sign or light i brake and the rpm goes down to 400-500... from there onwards i was using both feet to drive. when i come to a light i put it in neutral and riv and brake with the other leg. when i turns green put in drive and give gas..... you guys have a solution to this problem????????
