The check engine light came on and indicated a bad O2 sensor. It has been changed twice. Both times the mechanic hasn't been able to turn the check engine light to turn off. We have an appointment with Chrysler. They estimate it will cost $400 to turn it off! Is that correct?
No that is way to much. it is only 1 hour labor
The mechanic you went to never diagnosed the problem &
resolved it
When you change a failed oxygen sensor the light goes off
on it's own, your guy doesn't know how to repair a vehicle for
a living
The light is a Malfunction Indicator Lamp, have you not done
any research at all
This is not new technology,it has been on all vehicle for 32 years
Stay away from a dealer or more money goes by by
Try another shop
Codes have nothing to do with telling you what is wrong &
have nothing to do with replacing any parts
There is no cost to turn off a lamp that is on as an indication
of a system failure. So the advice is wrong & you fail to understand
what your told
You clear all data you needed to diagnose the failed system ,once
all issues are resolved, then the OBD2 MIL Lamp goes out
Thanks for your input, but we have gone to 4 independent mechanics, at least two of them highly trustworthy and honest, ( I just don"t know the other two) and they all have the same problem. My main mechanic did say that he believed that the PCM could be going bad. We did end up at Chrysler and that is what they found, a bad PCM. Thanks again.

SOURCE: where is the crank sensor located on 2005 chrysler pt cruiser?
the crank sensor is located on back right side of engine by were the trans. bolts up.is the no start when could or hot?
SOURCE: I have a 2003 PT cruiser w/ the check engine
It senses when the engine pings and the computer will adjust the timing accordingly. It is located in the block.
SOURCE: "Check Engine light"
The issue is that the system randomly checks the loop of the fuel system to confirm that it has no leaks. A missing cap is the easy one to correct. It might also be a slpit in the rubber hose that connects the fuel fill tube (on the chassis) to the one on the tank, or any other hose in the the entire fuel delivery/ fume recovery sysrtem. The solenoid that allows the engine's vacuum to be used to conduct this test can also be sticking so that after the test cycle, it doesn't reclose. Good luck
SOURCE: '05 PT Cruiser O2 sensor problems.
I had a similar problem with my car. It turned out the O2 sensors were fine and the issue was a leak in the throttle body causing the engine to run lean. If you have an ODB2 scanner you can look at fuel trims, etc and will be able to tell.

Hi there are many things that could cause these problems.
It could be a fuel or ignition fault ( most likely its an electrical fault, coil or one of the many sensors
which control the engine )
The best way forward is to get a dianostic check done ( code reader ) as this will pin point the
problem and save you money by replacing only whats needed.
I hope i have been of some help to you.
