SOURCE: How to change the serpentine belt on '98 Plymouth Breeze?
All you need is a long prubar (or you can rent a tensioner wrench at the parts store) essentially a open end wrench with a 3 ft handle.
Put the tensioner wrench on the nub of the tensioner and pull back... this will release the tension on the old belt. Remove it from one of the pulleys, and then from the entire system.
Note how it is routed through the pulleys, and put the new one on the same way.
The car should have a sticker on the radiator support telling you the path of the belt.

remove belt and check the pulleys. this belt routing is odd and its very tight. i have seen many failed tensoner pulleys on these. it should spin smoothly and quiet. and grinding or bumpyness in it and i would replace it. check all pulleys while your there. they are not expensive.
good luck,
Michael

There should be a drawing of it on the front cross member at the front of the car. Mine is, I have the manual in front of me but like you say, there are quite a few different versions, I`ve just changed the serpentine belt on my chrysler grand voyager 2.5CRD diesel because the alternator froze up and wrecked the belt. It was a very simple job because the drawing was on the front cross member of the car. Let me know the engine and I`ll try to explain the routing to you. Ian
SOURCE: How do I replace the serpentine belt on my 2000
the tensioner is on the alternator there is usually a cover over it you need to loosen the 2 screws on the alternator and turn the "adjuster" screw till the belt is loose enough to come off note the whay it is run then install and tighten the new belt it must be very tight or it will slip
