I recently bought my wife a saturn aura and it did not come with any key fobs. Before i go out and buy her a remote start system is there a way to tell if she has a remote starter system installed?

You can go to the dealer and have the new remote and the car re-programed so they match and the old luck transmitter with not work on your car. Good luck

Interesting. My best guess is that there is problem with driver's door lock actuator or switch. The remote start won't work because the car has to confirm that the doors are locked before initiating the starting sequence.

I had this same exact problem in a family member's Saturn. If you are opening the door with the key and not using the key FOB to unlock the doors, then the security system will not allow you to start the car. You will notice when this happens that the dome light will blink and you'll hear the relay in the BCM clicking.
In order to stop the security system from doing this: Make sure the car is locked with the key fob by hitting the lock button. Then hit the unlock button on the key fob once and then once again (I do it out of habit). Then open the driver side door, put the key in and it should start no problem.

the amber light is not for the door locks its for the security system, there must be a issue there, either a bad BCM or a BAD PASSLOCK housing,,,it needs to go to dealer to find out which one, right now its in theft mode and it cuts the fuel off,,,
