2002 Hyundai Elantra - My car overheated over the weekend and is not holding water or antifreeze.

My car over heated over the weekend and my radiator is not holding water and anti freeze has leeked out. There is not a leek in the radiator or in the upper and lower hoses coming from the radiator. And the leek does not appear to be coming from the side of the car where the water pump is. There is antifreeze standing in places around the upper part of the engine. Any ideas what is causing this? Thanks for your help

SOURCE: coolant leak in the back of water pump.

replace water pump; sounds like it's coming from the weep hole(that's what it's called), because it starts like tears, and then comes the floodgates. your're gonna need a w pump.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon that is overheating.

If it's overheating it will lose antifreeze.I would change the thermostat first and see it it solves the overheating problem if not then worry about the water pump. Thermostats are only $7-10.

Overheated now won t start

Do a compression test or cylinder leakage test to check if the head gasket is blown. Looks like it blew on the water side. Or it could be that it overheated so badly that it could have collapsed the rings.. But if its not turning over means water got into the cylinders and seized up the piston. Remove the plugs and have a looks with bore scope for water ingress

Hello, I got this problem with my 2002 huyndai elantra, this car originally starter this problem, no heat when driving the car, the heat started to work on and off, the radiator looks ok, but 2 days ago,...

Place car on a steep incline or raise front end up higher than the heater core. Now, add coolant to the radiator as needed, with engine warmed up. It sounds like the radiator is lower than the heater core causing an air lock and if that is the case this will allow the air bubbles to escape.

I changed the thermostat and put in a new radiator on my 99 hyundai elantra. It drove fine i guess for about a week, but then started overheating again and stopped on me! Any suggestions? I smelled some...

You have some kind of a leak in the cooling systemDo you smell antifreeze when your inside the vehicle dose the heat work alright It may also be an engine vacuum leak you need to start it look under the hood and listen to where the hissing noise is comeing from if its cooling you should see antifreeze see if the floor is wet inside it could be the heater core and check vacuum lines for splits cracks on disconnected lines Ycould check to see if the radiator is holding pressure take a towel and turn the cap see if its under pressure but its going to be hot don;t get burned

Engine overheat, A/C shut off, fan hot

Chances are that your engine is ok. Bad engine overheating can seize the engine. Less extensive overheating can crack the engine especially the cylinder head and lead to power loss or mixing of water and engine oil. If water is mixing with oil, the oil looks milky. If your car is not losing power and the oil looks normal then chances are that there was no damage to your engine.

Just make sure that whatever caused the overheating in the first place is sorted out - perhaps the radiator flushing resolved the cause of the overheating.

Overheating

Should just be the two bolts holding the metal cover on. Follow the top radiator hose if you aren't sure where it is.

Before you do this, make sure you check your coolant level to make sure it isn't just low.

Hope this helps.
