Vehicle had been running fine and one morning it would not start. I bled the fuel line (on top of the engine) and it had a little pressure but not much. I replaced the fuel filter and now hardly any fuel pressure on the bleed valve mentioned above. The fuel filter ties into something I assume is a pressure regulator which has electrical connections to it. A parts store had no idea what the unit might be and it did not show on any of their schematics. I suspect this may be the culprit since the fuel line from the filter goes into this unit and then a line comes out of it to the engine compartment. The electric fuel pump in the tank is working. At least I can hear it running and when it builds up pressure it shuts off. Any ideas would be appreciated. GR
That is the fuel composition sensor ! Does your Suburban have duel fuel tanks or single tank ? What engine is in yours ? The fuel pressure regulator in located on the fuel injector rail on top of the engine . I would say the fuel pump was bad , just from personal expeirence . But if you don't know how to test the electrical circuit an check for fuel pressure with the correct tools , i suggest you take it to your chevy dealer . Is it a flex fuel vehicle ?

SOURCE: hard start
Its your fuel pump.I had the same plomblem not too long ago.I was spraying either in to start it.I have a 97 chevy truck witch requires 65 psi to start and 55 to run properly. You need to find out much psi you need to start it.You can probaly look in your manual or just make a few calls. My truck had 55 psi and it ran fine i just had to get it running first.Good luck.I wonder if that fuel pressure regulator was a waste of time like it was for me.

I had the same problem with my 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with the Automatic transmission. There is an electric lock up clutch within the torque converter that engages at roughly 35mph. It's designed to give the car better highway mileage. If that circuit fails, the clutch will remain in the "locked" position when hot, and stalls the car unless neutral is engaged and the car comes to a complete stop. I remember the car making all sorts of odd noise with this malfunction. I took mine to the dealership and they had it repaired in an hour.
My daughter had a similar problem with her 1988 Cavalier Z24 with the manual 4-speed transmission. There is a speed sensor on the top of the transmission that I replaced which solved the problem for her.
SOURCE: fuel pressure regulator had no vacuum line connected
another engineers wet dream. think of it this way . what is normally in the intake when the engine is running.. answer vacume, hence the regulator gets its vacume without a hose connected to it as its already in a full time vacume chamber.no hose required . ps be carefull to seat the regulator and o rings securely into the housing befor you reattach the secureing metal clip.
good luck chris

Key on engine off pressure on your truck should be 60-66lbs. A fuel pump replacement is definitely in order, bad thing is it is a whole assembly.
