2005 Taurus rough idle and engine light

Car ran fine. While on the highway driving at 70mph I lost my power steering pulley. I kept driving until the electrical failed and the car died. Replaced pulley and started car. Car starts right up but idles rough. Idles at 650 ish and got an engine light. Removed the battery cables replaced them after 3 minutes. Cars runs rough at idle but no engine light right now. Runs great after 20mph

SOURCE: replace PCV valve 2001 taurus duratec engline

I dont think it is the PCV but its a good idea to replace the PCV at least once a year either way, and its very cheap, usually $2-$5 at autozone.

SOURCE: check engine light is on: engine idles rough

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE IAC (IDLE AIR CONTROL) MOTOR IS BAD OR GOING BAD, BUT THE QUICK SOLUTION IS GO TO ANY AUTO ZONE,OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS STORE, AND THEY WILL CHECK IT FOR FREE,& TELL YOU WHAT SIGNAL CODE MADE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON, I WOULD DO THAT JUST TO BE FOR SURE, BECAUSE THERE ARE A FEW OTHER THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE IT AS WELL,SUCH AS MAF SENSOR DIRTY,OXY SENSOR GETTING A BAD READING,ETC.

My 2003 Ford Focus dies when idling after a little road trip.

have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle

My check engine light, vsc light and trac off light are on and the car is idleing rough. It sounds like it may be misfiring on a cylander.

my car did this last night while on Hwy same lights on , then I pulled over and steam { ?} was coming from under hood & red fluid was under the hood all over ... at shop being fixed on Monday anyone else had this? I suggest that if these lights are on get to shop fast. Lights where on for about 1 mth on my car all fluids where normal and car ran fine until last night while I was driving 70 MPH

I have a 2005 Kia Spectra ex. Had mechanic look at it twice. Had battery alternator and starter tested. All good. Check engine light is not on. Just had tune up trasmission fluid exchange done. The power...

The ringing noise could be from a bad alternator, a loose bolt, a loose pulley or gear or possibly a low fluid level in the power steering pump. Try listening for the noise when the engine is idling, then as you rev the motor from 1000 to 1800rpm and also while you are driving on the street and the highway. While the car is in park and running, crank the steering wheel right and/or left until it stops and hold it there to listen for noises from the power steering. The electronic gurgling noise and chattering noises could be failing bearings in one of the pulleys (tensioner, idler, etc. and/or possibly a water pump bearing. Here is a tip for diagnosis- Find 3/8 drive extension that is at least 12" to 18" long. Open the hood and start the car. Take one end of the extension and place it on the alternator body away from any electrical connections, pulleys, belts, etc. and put your ear against the other end and listen for chattering, ringing or any other odd noise. Then do the same to the p/s pump, a/c compressor, etc. BE SURE YOU SAFELY APPLY THIS TECHNIC AND IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE, TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL. SAFETY FIRST.

My 2005 Chevy Impala's power stearing problem?

From the sounds of it, that pothole messed up your steering. Something is binding in the steering train, could be a damaged tie rod end, one of the other steering joints, or even the rack and pinion steering itsself. When it's binding, the power steering pump has to work too hard, slowing the engine down, making your lights dim because it's also slowing the alternator(on the same belt drive) and furthering your steering problem. You need to get it checked out immediately before something breaks and gets you into an accident. Remember, if steering linkage breaks, you have NO control of your vehicle, and it doesn't care if you're driving 70 mph on the highway.

Something major happened either a blown engine or something major electric. The reason you heard a pop in speakers is because they picked up the problem. Does anything work electric? My guess is something inside engine broke and jammed up engine.

On my display "POWER STEERING" warning flashes then stays. When this happens my car will **** as if it is about to die. Could it be a transmission problem or a cpu problem?

Not familiar with a "power steering" warning.

I think this is similar to a oil pressure light coming on. What you are seeing is that the car is trying to stall, so the loss of power causes the power steering pump pressure to drop, and thus the warning.

Need to understand the underlying issues:

(1) Since you start with a power steering warning, must ask, are you making a short turn when this occurs?
(2) If not turning, then need to understand what you are doing when car tries to stall: Driving at highway speeds, idle, car hot/cold?

Could be a CPU problem, less likely a transmission problem, but on a 2005, should be getting a check engine light.

Engine shuts off going down the road

We had a similar problem and it was the connector that connects the ignition module (bottom of coil packs to the wiring harness. The technician spread the socket connectors and it solved the issue.
