Although the check engine light goes off, the code is most likely still locked in. stop by your local advanced auto parts, or mechanic to have them check it out.

SOURCE: CHUGGING ALONG WITH FLASHING CHECK ENGINE

A flashing Check Engine light means you have a ignition Misfire, start by replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires, one or more is defective. If you have a electronic engine control fault code reader the cylinder or cylinders that are misfiring will set a fault code, the codes are P0300-P0306, the last number being the number of the cylinder ( cylinders 1-6) the computer has detected a misfire in.

SOURCE: Reset the check engine light on 2005 Expedition

you have to take it to a shop to have it reset. if it tripped, it means something isn't working right, and that often leads to lower gas mileage if it isn't fixed, costing more money in the long term

SOURCE: 01 taurus v6, chugging @idle & acceler. engine light blinking

Drop in to autozone, or Pep boys and have it scanned, free, for trouble codes then go from there. Could be something simple & cheap

My 2008 Expedition is chugging and the check engine light is flashing, why?

The light is flashing because the problem is serious enough to cause damage to the catalytic converter.
Have the engine computer checked for trouble codes so you know what to test.

2008 ford expedition, its chugging at all different speeds even idles funny some times. It happens very sporadically, its very slight but noticeable.

Replace/check plugs wires and coils. Helps to use a spark plug tester to isolate a misfire. Next check/clean/ and replace maf sensor, idle control valve, and egr tube/valve.

Has the Fuel filter been changed? Clean the MAF the IAC and seafoam the intake. These things would be cheap to do first. Does it feel like a misfire? If so Id look into testing the coils Might need new plugs.

98 expedition chugging

first, start with changing the vacuum hoses. if that doesn't work, move onto a system cleaning, they clean your lines and your carbirator. that fixed mine for awhile. but i also but a new manifold in it as well. but if none of that fixes it im not sure. mine is chugging as well right now, i think it is the air filter and spark plugs and wires.
Hope this helps
