Think it could be a fuse, but don't know where to locate it. How will I know what fuse it is?
My EPS on my mitsubishi colt 2006 stopped working about 8 months now, I changed the electronic box,but it started to work for ten minutes and then stopped.I carried it by some electricians and they put the computer on it, but it is not getting through.Could someone lend some assistance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Here what I do:
1. Check the battery terminal ,clean and tighten enough.
2.Cover the electronic box with plastic sheet because above it the condensed water dripped onto it from AC line.
3.Check the electronic board on EPS motor, cleaned and resealed with silicone sealant.
4. Spray all terminal cable sockets with contact cleaner.
5. Do the same to the sensor within the steering colloum .
I have a Mitsubishi Colt+ 2006 Model, automatic. Bought the car with 56000Km on the clock. Driving from Wellington to Christchurch one day after buying the car, I noticed that the EPS light came on when I stopped for a break. I walked to a mechanic and when he arrived at the car everything was OK once again. Recently I noticed the EPS light comes on after driving the car and stopping. It comes on when I restart the car. I did a bit of research and found out that the electric motor for the EPS is connected to the steering rack under the car. I tapped the motor with a wooden hammer and everything started working again. I think in my case it may be brushes that need replacing in the motor, or the contacts in the harness connecting to the motor need to be cleaned. After tapping the electric motor I drove until the engine was hot, turned the car on and off a few times and the EPS light did not remain on. Personally I think that the ideal solution would be to refurbish the EPS motor and that is not a nice job - one will struggle to remove the motor from under the car. Hoping for good luck I am first going to clean the contacts and then see what happens. I doubt if the EPS control units will fail easily - there are no moving parts there. So before replacing the EPS control unit, try tapping the electric motor. It is easily found, it is located where the steering shaft connects to the steering gear.
Found this super helpful. Had the exact same peoblem. Replaced the module. No change. Thoroughly cleaned the EPS motor from under the car and it's working perfectly. Removed 2x rear subframe bolts and loosened the front 2 to lower the frame to access the electric motor. Pryed up 3 wiring harness clips.Unbolted 2 12mm bolts. Pulled the motor out wirh the worm drive gear. Unscrewed 3 screws and slid the perminant magnet outer housing off. (Note a wave washer will dislodge. Cleaned the comutator with electrical cleaner and then some 1500 grit sand paper. Blew dry and re assembled. All good no faults after 2 weeks of driving . Used to do it every time
Hi Daniel,
Did you support the subframe with anything or does it not need to be supported?
I'm getting the same symptoms on my 1.1 '07 Colt and swapping out the ECU inside the car hasn't fixed it so I'm hoping that changing the EPS motor will.
I've got a replacement motor here, and in an ideal world I won't have to remove the entire steering rack to fit it, but at the moment there doesn't look like there's a great deal of space to play with.
Also, the subframe looks like it has thousands of bolts. Where are the four bolts that you're talking about?

If you are having trouble starting the engine when this light comes on, replace the camshaft sensor. Screws into front of engine block. Costs about £35
U need a eps control module
