Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire
The car ran fine then we put the front up on ramps to change the coolant shut it down. After the coolant was change it would not run anymore. we would turn the key to start it and it would crank and run for only a few seconds then shut down. but one thing we notice was that we had no security lights that would come on rite before the engine starts.things that we change ignition switch/fuel filter. Things we checked all fuses.

You might not need a tumble, the sys is controled by the key, and transponder, and the ecm. Most auto locks smiths can come out and check the system, might just need a key re-programed

I had the same problem. Goodwrench looked at my car for 2 hours could not figure it out. Then they unpluged the body control module and plugged it back in and presto, problem solved.

SOURCE: car want crank over
This is Caused by the Fuel Pump. If you remove the Fuel Pump relay and it will try to Crank, You have a Bad Fuel Pump. I do Believe that the Fuel Pump is located inside the Fuel Tank on the Sunfire. Not an easy Repair But, Necessary

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.
