Transmission problems on 1995 Ford Windstar 3.8 liter engine when motor is cold transmission shifts fine, when it gets hot it will not shift into overdrive.Changed transmission filter and fluid believe it may be celinoid crank senser, tryed to replace and cannot find where it is.Is there an easy way to access this part?
Having same problem with tranny but the overdrive light keeps blinking any ideas?
I drivng on the freeway, then after exiting and stopping at the traffic signal, my 1995 windstar losed its transmission power with the motor working well. i was able ot leave by driving on the overdrive.
What system trouble codes do u have? the most common cause of this is either the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or the OD control solenoid inside the trans pan.

I have the same problem. But I took mine in to get my tranny rebuilt and spent lots of money. I had to take it back two times cause my tranny continued to do the same thing. But my idiot light for the tranny on my overdrive gear shift does not come on, it just sticks in gear but will eventually go. My warranty is out for the tranny, now I am ready to drive it off a cliff!!
my 95 windstar starts slipping under load when accending minor grades if the trans is cold. i solve this by shifting into 2nd. other than this, this ride is a great camping machine for the family. very realiable.
Sounds like we are in about the same boat with our Windstar Vans..Mine is a 1995 and I have been having some shift issues as well. I ran a code check and it came up with P0750 which is a shift solenoid. Had to remove the side pan on the end of the transmission..(Drivers Side). There are three solenoids in a row on the right side of the trans.. Has three plugs to them. Got them for $22.00 each. Changed them and the same code came up. After some research I found out that the EPC solenoid may be the issue. It controls the ****** pressure which effects the shifting of the ******...I found it on the net for #27.00...I am going to replace that and that will be about it as far as me trying to work out the bugs...I have also replaced the Neutral switch and the three shift solenoids so far...My trans. will shift up to O/D and then at 45 mph. drop back down into 2nd. it causes the engine to rev up...Have to slow down to get it to shift up again...Will post more later...
Also I have to run about 43 mph on the hwy or it drops back into 2nd. The EPC solenoid is located in the upper left corner of the end pan...Small bolts remove it and a plug on some models and other its a regulated pressure switch which is a constant...
