Audi A4 1.8T 2000 - 4th spark plug blown due to too much oil ?

According to Audi , my 2000 A4  needs a new engine two weeks after huge snow storms were the root cause of the chains used as such, cutting through my brake lines, thus, requiring the latter be reinstalled. Suddenly, the low oil indicator starts flashing...So, I put in oil; 1 quart and it still flashes, a 2nd quarter...and suddenly it starts making noises, and stops shifting smoothly into gear. So, I take her into University Audi, Seattle, WA and what I think is an oil too low or a leak, is actually a blown 4th cylinder spark plug, which apparently in mechanic speak means I need a new engine. Can someone either with the same experience tell me if that is a true diagnosis...? Audi quoted me $7900 to fix it, and the KBB value is less than $3000. Is there anything that can be done to save her, less replacing the engine...spark plug to me <> engine. Help! Thanks!!!

Did you try replacing the plug? Or do they mean "blown" as in broken off in the head. I need more information and I may be able to help you. If you reply with an email address listed, I can buzz you that way too and we can figure it out.

SOURCE: Audi A8 transmission trouble

Hi, first i would check the fluid level if it is not a sealed trans. if the fluid level is ok, it may be that the TCM(transmission Control module is malfunctioning. this module controls the actual shift points. the TCM sends the shift signal to the shift solenoids that are located inside the transmission pan. these shift solenoids preform the engagements of the gears on command, which is initiated by this module i speak of. this module may be damaged,in return, causing this confusion in the shifting patterns you are experiencing.

SOURCE: 2000 Audi A4 quattro with abrupt gear shifting & low oil pressure

I hope that you had the proper weight oil installed, at your oil change. If your oil is up to the proper level, and it's rattling ,this is VERY bad. White smoke usually means steam in the exhaust, and that means a blown head gasket. Check your coolant level. I wouldn't drive it anymore......until someone knowledgeable can diagnose it!!!!!

SOURCE: Audi A5 engine oil top up

Audi cars do not use much oil as far as I know.A new engine which is not warned together can take some oil of course.Make sure that you use the proper oil type specified by the manufacturer.Try to change the oil and filter completely, then measure the oil consumption.Should not be more then 1 liter on 10000kms.

SOURCE: My 2004 audi A4 consumes oil at a rate of 1 1/2

How many miles/km's you drive in those 3 month's ? oil consumption is normal ! Check when you first start the engine in the morning wetter or not you see a puff of blue smoke, if you see smoke , your valve seals are leaking.
1 liter oil each 2000km is normal.

I have noticed that my 2014 Audi Q5 has started to require oil top up the last 9 months. I have had the add a litre indicator come on twice. Is this normal

if lucky, and for sure can be.
the PCV is bad, (or clogged,) replace it is wise.
for sure 14 years old. it is all gunked up
and causes huge crankcase pressure bad, and huge oil consumption or worse oil leaks to ground or even blown seals $$$$$$$$$$$$$
no miles told
time is not useful for oil , miles is
and if driving 85mph, it will use more oil
all engines made burn some oil
the piston oil control rings do not ever seal 100% if it dead the top rings , seizes and engine is now a wreck.
that is the why
best is check the levels ever fuel fill up then if ok, skip 1 check
or more based on when it drops 1/4 LT. never let it go lower
keep it on full, all the time , so oil runs cooler. and longer

I have honda generator, overhauled last year, last week i changed oil from then onward oil level is getting low but not that low . with white smoke at the start of generator and oil burning smell.

Could be the engine, until the overhaul, was run on a low grade or low specification oil that allowed or even encouraged sludge and carbon to build up in the engine.
If a high detergent oil was used at the overhaul it would have scoured the inside of the engine, removing deposits so increased oil consumption is often the result.

The additive packs of some oils also tend to cause the premature hardening and failure of some types of rubber seal, though this was a huge problem 20-30 years ago it isn't seen much today.

Subaru rolling over, but won't fire

the mistake is washing the engine bay
water gets into every electronic connections and shorts out everything
use compressed air in all of the harness connections and use dewatering fluid ( wd-40 or the like )to remove the water

Sputtering and stalling while driving and then just dies.

additive? for what reason, for stalling? or just for fun added.
you didnt say.?????
if it was for bad running, did you read the container, ?
and add the correct amount on a full tank of fuel, if not , then you may have added too much, some additives are very bad,
next time use Techron fuel additive, (if you feel compelled)
if the car runs bad no fresh fuel, and all 4 sparks are fouled.
no additive is best. fouled sparks are from other reasons.
50 reasons. and not one is cured by magic in a bottle.
I run Chevron fuel in my car, so adding more benzene is of no help
ever.
you said plugs, that to me means, (????)_all 4 are fouled.
4 plugs changed, where they spec type spark plugs, J plugs.
and were the gapped to Geo Storm spec.
if new plugs foul? that means (all 4?) means its running rich.
top reason for rich are:
1: thermostat missing or stuck open (engine never reaches normal temp)
2: Sensors reading wrong,
The Check engine lamp, what does it do.?
Is CEL light glowing key on,. then out after starting, (no? then pull the DTC codes and read the problem)
too high fuel pressure, ask your mech to measure that. or DIY.
ECU stuck in limphome mode. check DTC codes for reason.
Dead , bad or weak sensors.
leaking injectors
Ask any ASE mechanic, to just diagnose the problem.
then you have your answer. but many shops never seen a GEO ever
and have no documentation. on these.
how ever alldata dot com has it.

Does it briefly run when an ether spray is used.
If there is a distributor do the plug wires go to the right plugs?

An engine needs a decent cranking speed, compression, timing, the correct amount of fuel and a good spark in order to run. You claim fuel, spark and timing...

When building an engine it is important to empty the hydraulic tappets of oil so they don't hold the valves open.

Last week while driving on the freeway the engine suddenly lost nearly half its power.

I agree with your friend. It sounds like a blown head gasket to me, too.
