Van problems my 97 ford windstar, when started would die when shifted in drive or reverse....was told in could be a selinod inside transmission, a vacum moderlator, and maybe a locked up brake...well today we pulled the van to air up the tires and suddenly it now drive in reverse and drive..we used it all day and it works fine...but for how long ? or is it temporay....or should i just get rid of it now that its running..... im so confused....your suggestions would really be appreciated

iac valve is sticking remove valve and clean the shaft so it moves freely. This is a very easy fix.

i have a 1996 wind star van the over drive light is flashing and it downshifts sometime it seems like it is in over drive when you take off. is there a censor on the transmission that needs replaced

Check your transmission fluid level if at all possible. If your fluid is low you won't be able to engage any gears as there isn't enough pressurized fluid to shift the clutch or selector in the transmission box. If that's fine, next check the selector link and check it is connected to the transmission (not totally unheard of for it to come loose). Still no joy then it's the clutch...sorry.

check the brake lights to see if they work ithey do then the problem is in the locking mechanism, however if the brake lights sont work then first check the fuse, check the wires and the connector that hooks up to the brake switch under the pedal and if it is dammaged repair as needed and if yo get the lights working yo have made the lock to work also!!
