2 dealers cannot figure out why the rear windshield wiper will not work. They tried installing a new motor, new fuse, completely re-traced the wiring throughout the whole vehicle (no problems). Can this problem be fixed? It has spent 2 weeks in 2 different shops with no solution.
my rear windshield wiper blade went halfway and then stopped in the middle. Unfortunately, not thinking, I opened the rear gate and now the window cannot close due to the wiper being half up. How do I take the wiper blade off so I can close it. Has anyone found the solution to this problem? It's not the fuse and I don't want to be stuck in auto shop hell like the last writer.my rear windshield wiper blade went halfway and then stopped in the middle. Same thing happened to me, turned on the rear wiper and it stopped halfway through. Won't go back down. When it did go the whole way through the wiper cycle it was very slow.Same thing happened to me, turned on the rear wiper and it stopped halfway through. Won't go back down. On my wife's 02 I have traced power from the constant and power from the "intermittent" and "on" positions of the switch. I have also confirmed good ground. The only wire not working properly is the yellow/white from the "tailgate flipup ajar switch" as the Chilton's puts it. This makes sure the rear glass is closed since the wiper is mounted to the door. Since it has no power out even manually activating the latch I can only assume this is the problem. My jobber cost is about 100 from the dealer. It is an assembly of latch and switch. On my wife's 02 I have traced power from the constant and power from the "intermittent" and "on" positions of the switch. I have also confirmed good ground. Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? A wiring diagram for your vehicles windshield wipers electrical circuit would show all components involved . You would need a wiring diagram for testing ,so you know which wires too test . It would show the fuse location - amperage etc.... Which of these is your vehicle - Notchback or hatchback or station wagon .
The fuse would be marked WPR fuse # 9 25 amp. located in the IP fuse panel . IP - instrument panel fuse box . It's location is
Fuse Block - I/P
Behind the left side of the I/P access panel
Windshield Wiper System
The windshield wiper system consists of a wiper motor, a linkage, a wiper arm and a blade, and a wiper/washer switch. The windshield wiper circuit incorporates a self parking device which consists of a worm gear and a cam plate in order to keep the circuit engaged temporarily when the switch is turned off. The wiper system is driven by a permanent magnet-type motor. The windshield wiper motor is mounted on the dash panel and is directly connected to the windshield wiper linkage.
The windshield wiper motor has 2 speeds, LO and HI, and also has intermittent wiper capability. The wiper switch is an integral part of the wiper/washer switch. Windshield wiper operation is actuated through the lever on the right side of the steering column.
The rear wiper has its own pump motor. pull the hose from the wiper and have someone engage to see if there is a clog. do the same at the motor. if bo liquid comes out then its the pump. also check fluid level in reservoir as well as a possible secondary reservoir
2 ways of dealing with this. Install a new motor or put up with it until you install a new motor. I usually give it a very light tap with a hammer or a wrench & they start working fine at least for a while
I think the dealer is mistaken, the is a washer jar for the front and one for the rear. be sure fluid is pure, and undiluted. clean out front washer jar, if it has been contaminated with any wrong fluid it will never flush it self out. Second point is front washer pump may have minor seal concern that is only apparent when cold. if first step does not cure, I would recommend repalcing pump. Keep me posted
You have a motor for the front and rear washer. Check the fuses. If the intermitted wipers does not work, there is a relay under the dash near the steering colum that needs to be replaced.
Damn dealers. No schematic needed. Open your hood. Just below your windshield you will see vents and through those you will see your wiper motor and arm. You might need to replace the bushing which is probably what broke.
