A dead battery will need about 16 hours to charge on slow charge.
Its not the voltage that you are looking to test its the amperage or to test voltage under load eg. when the starter motor is eing operated.Or could be tested with a load tester.

2005 coupe just put new battery on. Horn and indicators on constantly.

I don't know make and model? Sometimes if battery voltage is lost, some systems may need to relearn or be reprogrammed. Sometimes, I tell people to use memory saver, when they disconnect the battery, so there won't be any problems like you seem to have, at the moment. Some plug into cigar lighter socket, you could even use a lo amp battery charger connected to battery cables, make sure cables don't touch any metal.
I know what I posted won't help you, now. Sorry about that. I suppose you could take it to dealership and let them reprogram the system. Just my opinion.

The battery wonā€™t charge when connected to 240 volts.ideas ?

The voltage in the battery is too low to ā€œexciteā€ the charger. The charger needs to read some sort of voltage to know it is connected to a battery and connected the right way otherwise it will not begin charging. If you have another battery and jump leads you can connect it to the flat battery to excite the charger. Once the charger commences charging you can remove the jump battery and leave the flat battery to be charged.

Is there a problem with the charger or is there a reset process ??

You will need to provide more information, please. Are you trying to use a battery charger to charge a car battery? Is the battery in the car? Is the charger giving some sort of error, and if so, what is the error? Have you measured the voltage on the battery to know if it is high enough for the charger to even recognize it as a battery that is safe to charge? Any additional information that might help us help you?

What would you like to know ? How to fix ? Do you know anything about automotive electrical circuits ? Go http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html for free wiring diagrams ! Go to you tube an check out videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting , Do you own a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . also check out videos on voltage drop testing . Then with wiring diagram in hand check voltage drop on the circuits in question . Oh one more thing ,there is probably a module that controls these things , so it wouldn't to have a scan tool hooked to check for codes in body controller . Voltage Drop Essentials TST Motor Age

I HAVE A DURLAST GOLD JUMP STARTER WITHOUT THE CHARGER FOR IT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KIND OF CHARGER IT TAKES?

There should be a sticker on the back or underneath on the bottom that tells what charging voltage should be. If not look where the charger plugs into the box, it should say how many volts it is and what polarity it is.

Car alternator to use as a battery charger only

It would be a very complicated way of charging a battery . Apart from having to have a power source to spin the alternaftor around you will also need a voltage control system (regulator) or else you will cook the battery. Unless you really know what you are doing i wouldn't recommend it

Surely it would be cheaper to get a regular battery charger.
