When i start the car the engine races the idle does not come down like it should after the car has warmed up . then when i put it in gear it comes down but sometimes when the car is in gear the idle goes up and down while i am stopped and holding the break pedal. and acts like it is going to die. sometimes the car does die when i put the car into reverse. if anyone knows what might be the cause of this i would be greatfull for their help
Could becaused by a few different thing's . Map sensor , idle air control valve , a vacuum leak . Having the vehicle's scan data viewed would probably pin point the problem . Do you know what scan data is ? Is what a professional tech uses to find problems .

Hello;
It sounds as if you have a small vacuum leak some where in the intake system. Also since you cleaned the throttle body also clean the MAS. It is located between the air filter housing and the throttle body. Hope this helps, rate me highly.
Thanks;

The problem is the torque converter solenoid. I had it happen on my 94 Cavalier a few years back and was a cheap fix at the local car mechanic. What happens is the transmission warms up and hits a certain speed where the solenoid engages, but then it sticks and won't disengage until it cools down sufficiently. When it sticks, it causes the car to shake when slowing down and will snub out the engine if you come to a stop.

sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible,try this first since its so common and let me know

depending on what kind of car it is i would change the idle air control valve and clean throttle body if applicable

Sounds to me like the Throttle Position Sensor. Thats usually what makes the throttle "rev" But that is not going to make the oil pressure drop. Pull the codes from your car and look them up online. sometimes there is an extra fuse u can add to your panel and turn the key on and it will flash your codes via the check engine light. i.e. if the light flashes 2 times then small pause then 1 time and long pause that is code 21. if there isnt a extra fuse you can usually jump it with a paperclip and pull the codes. not really sure how to do that with yours. but im positive Google knows ;)
