Brake proportioning valve location

The red brake warning light on. Park brake not causing problem. Fluid level sensor not causing problem. Is there a brake proportioning valve that would cause the light to illuminate? If so, where is it? It is an electrical problem, so I already covered the light with electrical tape, but if I decide to spend another minute or two on the issue, I want to know where to look.

SOURCE: did brake job on 1992 chevy pickup, how do I release proportional valve?

some times you get an air bubble and you just cant get it to pass. you can work very hard and still not get it to bleed. snapon sells a bleeder system that sell for around $500 but i can tell you how to build one for under $20. if interested. but your answere is to back bleed the system from the farthest away wheel first. and then your peddel will come back.

SOURCE: My service traction system warning light is on.

Most traction systems have sensors at each wheel. These detect wheel spin (can be a loose connection, broken wire, dirty sensor) The ABS won't work for the same reason but your brakes will work fine without ABS. (as long as brake fluid is full) The expansion bottle should have some coolant in it as well as the radiator. My experience is the bottle has a low level sensor that can get dirty ( If it was full) But you seem to be losing coolant? Is the lid on tight? Do you ever see coolant on the ground or in the engine bay? Sorry that's a mystery from here. Hopefully it is not disappearing in your engine. That would be a bad head gasket!

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee, and the brake warning light comes on at ignition, and stays on. What could be causing this?

omg what country, and which lamp there is not just one lamp.
"brake indicator used for vehicles manufactured
for the United States consists of the word
"BRAKE" imprinted on a red lens"
and
The Rest-Of-World
(ROW) market version of this indicator has two
International Control and Display Symbol icons
imprinted on the red lens; one is the icon for "Brake
Failure", and the other is the icon for "Parking
Brake".

why not read the manual first, or is guessing how it works fun?

posted it like 300 times now.
again, on one RED BRAKE warning lamp. (not ABS)
WJ jeep 99-04
see brakes chapter 3 covers it all.
the diffr pressure valve sets the red brake light on

"The parking brake switch is in circuit with the red
warning lamp in the dash.
The switch will cause the
lamp to illuminate only when the parking brakes are
applied. If the lamp remains on after parking brake
release, the switch or wires are faulty.
If the red lamp comes on a fault has occurred in
the front or rear brake hydraulic system.
If the red warning lamp and yellow warning lamp
come on, the electronic brake distribution may be at
fault.
In most cases, the actual cause of an improperly
functioning parking brake (too loose/too tight/won't
hold), can be traced to a parking brake component."
so unplug it to see that its not CAUSE.

parting shot, i make sure all red lamp devices are unplugged
1 by 1 to know which one is tripping, the lamp.
then after bleeded, I step on the brake pedal real hard.
100lbs or more
and this will centralize the DIFF VALVE NOW>
if not the brakes have air in the system.
or the DIFF VALVE is seized.
they can stick so, learn the MONSTER FOOT brake test./
use max brake pedal pressure now.

there is a parking lamp too. that glows and will warn of low fluid levels.
are you working on the car with no scan tool?
is yes, then you miss out on all those brake error DTCs
dont you... and work totally blind

02 Ford Explorer sporttrac xlt. New rotors calipers pads and master cylinder. Bled it twice stream looks good new fluid. One day breaks stick then the next no breaks Break light on Proportional valve?

For some reason these vehicles you need to bleed brakes several times, had same problem, so air hangs up in lines somewhere it apears. When you say brakes sticks, describe it better, locked up, or dragging on rotors?

My antilock brake system stopped working and my emergancy brake light is on even though the brake is down. the fluid is fine.

If the parking brake switch is not stuck and the fluid level is OK, try tapping on the fluid reservoir to see if the light flickers or goes off. (you need 2 people to do this) If it flickers or goes off then replace your fluid level sensor. (You may have to buy a complete reservoir or master cylinder depending on your car ) If this does not provide any results, then you may have an internal leak in your master cylinder or Antolock Hydraulic Control Module causing the Proportioning Sensor Switch to turn the light on. At this point. I would tow it to a shop and have the Antilock Control Module scanned to see why it has turned the light on and disabled your Antilock Brake System. I do not recommend driving the car at all until the RED brake warning lamp problem has been resolved. It is OK to operate the vehicle (cautiously) with the YELLOW Antilock brake lamp on.

Brake light stays on in dash 96 ford thunderbird

Hi, there are 3 things that can cause the light to stay on.
One is the parking brake switch, which may have shorted internally or to chassis ground. The switch is above the parking brake pedal. If the connector is still on the switch remove it. If the light goes out, replace the switch.

The second is the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Check fluid level. If good, check the sensor by taking the cable off. If that puts the light out, replace the sensor.

The third is the pressure differential warning switch. The switch turns on when there is a brake failure. You would probably know if this happened. If not, check all wheels for brake fluid leaks. If you have a leak and need help with repair procedures, please get back to me. If you have completed repairs, please read the procedures below from autozone.com to reset the warning switch.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for using FixYa.

From autozone.com:
A pressure differential warning valve is incorporated in the hydraulic system. The signal from this valve consists of a warning light on the dashboard activated by a differential pressure switch located below the master cylinder. The signal indicates a hydraulic pressure differential between the front and rear brakes of 80-150 psi, and should warn the driver that a hydraulic failure has occurred.
After repairing and bleeding any part of the hydraulic system the warning light may remain on due to the pressure differential valve remaining in the off-center position. To centralize the valve a pressure difference must be created in the opposite branch of the hydraulic system that was repaired or bled last.
Front wheel balancing of cars equipped with disc brakes may also cause a pressure differential in the front branch of the system.

VALVE CENTERING PROCEDURE

  1. Turn the ignition to either the ACC or ON position.
  2. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoirs. Fill to within 1 / 4 in. (6mm) of the top if necessary.
  3. Depress the brake pedal firmly. The valve will centralize itself causing the brake warning light to go out.
  4. Turn the ignition off.
  5. Prior to driving the vehicle, check the operation of the brakes and obtain a firm pedal.

Location of the emergency rear brake switch n a

Hello. I assume that you want to know the location of the switch that activates the brake light on the dash when the park brake lever is pulled. It is under the rear of the park brake handle; you need to remove the console to see it.

However...if your brake light in your dash is staying ON, I would first suggest that you look at the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. If it is low, the light will come on, also. The fluid level in the master cylinder drops proportionally as the brake wear. I would bet that your fluid is low; about an ounce of fluid decrease will light up the brake light.

Parking brake light stays on

Hello. Assuming that you do not have an issue with the switch on the park brake, the most common reason for this is low brake fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir. This should not alarm you, however. Toyot has implemented a sensor that measures the fluid level in the reservoir; and, as the brakes normally wear, the fluid level drops proportionally.

I would suggest that you get the front brakes checked, it may be time for replacement.

...Don't add fluid just to turn off the light... when the brakes are replaced, the fluid level will raise, and any additional fluid will be forced out, and the fluid will damage the paint under the cylinder.

Thanks for using FixYa!

1994 Toyota 4x4 Brake Warning Light Going on and Off

You have one of two problems.

The most common issue it low brake fluid in the master cylinder. As the brakes wear down, the brake fluid level drops proportionally. On the side of the master cylinder is a sensor, that measures the fluid level. Open the hood and check the level. If is is anywhere close to the "MIN" line, you may have some brakes that need replaced.

The second issue, and it is more rare, is the park brake cable rusting, and hanging up.

Easy way to check either: When the light comes on, open the hood and unplug the wire going to the sensor on the side of the master cylinder. If the light goes out, your fluid level is the issue.

The brake light on the dash stays on i have replaced the rear brake shoes wheel cylinders and drums master cylinder front pads caliper and rotor on my 1988 gmc 1500 pick up the light will not go out

There is a level switch in the master cylinder if the fluid level is low it will turn on the light and If you pressure or vacuum bleed the brakes you will center the proporting valve switch that warns of low brake pressure in either Front or rear.
Vacuum bleeding I have found to work the best.
Make sure the Park brake lever is all the way released. If you find this informationn helpful please leave me a favorable rating and by all means contact me if I can be of any further help.
