Is the thermostat on the left or right of the engine?

  • vijven Mar 18, 2009

I think your car engine has pretty much run its life, you can drive it as long as you keep the radiator filled up with coolant, your check engine light will be still on since the coolant drips on a sensor when it leaks and dont expect your a/c to work. The problem with your engine is that the head is cracked at the top and the coolant is leaking out of it. There is no solution except to replace the engine. I had the same problem and i had taken it to toyota and they asked me to replace my motor and showed me where the coolant is escaping from. Good Luck with you next car.

The thermostat housing is located by grabbing the upper radiator hose, and following it back to the engine block.
The housing that the hose is connected to is the thermostat housing.
Changing the thermostat will fix your problem!

The thermostat housing does not have a radiator cap on it. That is the radiator.

You need to look on the other ent of the hose. Dome shaped with bolts holding it down on the engine block.

    This is your engine??

Sorry, i was thinking the 4 banger....

in the V-6 the thermostat is near the water pump in the housing close to the lower hose.

Please rethink giving a FixYa rating :D

    looks like this....

There is no gasket, it is an o-ring seal. Should come with the new thermostat.

What causes a 1993 toyota vienta to heat up excessively

Coolant level low, thermostat stuck closed, radiator fans failed, head gasket leak to coolant jacket

After checking the coolant level, look at the radiator fans when it is very hot to see if they operate.

If OK, have a mechanic do a simple check for combustion gases in the coolant, and a compression check on all cylinders. This is not expensive.

If OK, change the thermostat and flush the radiator.

My 93 Camry starts and drives fine, but when I stop and push on gas it stalls and acts like it wants to cut off, and my check engine light comes on.

your having a TPS (throttle position sensor) or ISC (idle speed control) sensor problem u need to have your car checked using an electronic scan tool to locate the faulty sensor to avoid costly replacement of unnecessary parts.

1993 V6 camry engine over heats and check engine light comes on

The thermostat is found by following the top large radiator hose and following it to where it connect to the engine. Pull your oil dipstick and see if the oil on the stick looks milky. If so, that is an indication of water/antifreeze which points to a blown headgasket.

Good luck!
