Your transmission fluid contain water, thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink. And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.

SOURCE: trans drops into 3rd gear won,t shift to 4th

DTC P0734 is "4th gear incorrect ratio" - that's your torque converter 'LOCK UP Clutch" It's worn out (or you're using the wrong Trans Fluid required by Hyundai - SPIII OR Both). The P1624 is simply the Trans Control Unit (computer) communicating to the Engine Control Module (ECM computer) MIL - on request signal to ECM = asking it to turn on "Check Engine" light. MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp. When the torque converter 'lock up" clutch slips or doesn't engage, the trans automatically returns to 3rd gear and stays there (it's called 'fail safe' mode) until you cycle the ignition key, then everything resets until the malfunction occurs again.
You'll need to have an AT (Automatic Transaxel) tester hooked up to verify this. Hyundai has a Service Bulletin specifically for "gear incorrect ratio' codes. If when you changed the trans fluid, was it done at a Hyundai Service Center? If not, someone may have installed the wrong fluid.

SOURCE: 2002 Grand Am GT transmission problem.

Well, there could be several possible problems. It is not uncommon to have a little harder shifting after a fluid change for a period if the system was low prior to the change however, If you had the fluid changed using one of those reverse flush machines I see the problem getting worse. Most stations want to use the back flush system to do a fluid change now days. That is because the newer model vehicle have a metal filter screen which is re-usable and is designed at the factory to use Synthetic Fluid. In the older model vehicles, 2000 to 2005, manufacturers where still mixing the types of filters that were being used. This model has a standard filter that model uses the newer filter. If you went to Jiffy Lube and didn't specify you wanted a regular Fluid and Filter change they hooked it to the machine and charged $140+ for the job. A regular Filter and fluid change with regular fluid would have run about $50. Every time, and I mean Every time, I have had a fluid change using that back flush machine on a vehicle within 6 months I have had to have the Transmission repaired at a shop. If you didn't have the fluid changed using that backflush machine then your problem is just adjustment to the new fluid being at the proper level. If you did, start saving for a Transmission rebuild at a shop, it's not far away.

Not going forward backwards

Check transmission fluid, if low, fill to proper lvl. Fluid supposed to be reddish pink. If fluid looks good, its probably the transmisson control selonoid. If its dark and/or smells burned, and/or has dark specks throughout the fluid, a fluid change with filter might help, but you will need to replace your transmisson as burned smelling fluid or dark specks in your fluid indicates a severly worn transmission.

Transmission slipping

Check the fluid level first.
Run car for 15-20 minutes, then check fluid with ingine running in park or neutral. (set parking brake)

You must wipe the stick clean and reinsert it all the way and pull out again to get correct reading.

You will see the marks where the fluid should be. (top dot or line is full when hot)

If low, add the correct fluid. (Parts store will tell you which to use)

If the fluid is full or very near it, check the color. It should look like cherry juice. (transparent pinkish red)

If the fluid is very dark, brown, or even near black, you need a transmission flush.
Should run between $65-$130 at your local oil change place.

This can help if the internals of the transmission are not broken.

I had a 2002 elantra, and the flush fixed my issue.
A friend had the same issue on her 2001 elantra and she needed a rebuild.

Let me know what the end result is.

When should Trans. be serviced ic 2005 elantra?

Hi Gary, We recommend that the fluids and filter be replaced twice a year. If the fluid has a burned smell it should be done with urgency as it is well over due. I'm talking about auto transmission! Manual fluids should be replaced once a year. Brake and clutch fluids too!Regards Johngee10

My hyundai latra1.6glsi wont start when hot just keeps turning over,it is fine when cold

Sounds like a problem with your radiator. It gets too hot too fast. Get it checked to make sure that the fluid is pumping thru your engine correctly.

I need to know what type of fluid my manual transmission takes and where to put it on a 2000 Hyundai elantra

manual transmissions should never need fluid unless u have a leak. theres a plug on the side of the transmission. if u have your oil changed at a shop they can check it for you easily.

My mechanic reccomends a tranmission flush?

USUALLY YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE TRANY FLUID EVERY 40,000 MILES. MORE OFTEN IF YOU LIVE IN A HOT AREA LIKE PHOENIX ARIZONA. YOU COULD HAVE PROBLEMS IF YOU CHANGE THE FLUID NOW. IT IS KIND OF A GAMBLE. IF YOU HAVEN'T DRIVEN YOUR CAR HARD YOU MORE THAN LIKELY WILL BE FINE. A GOOD INDICATOR OF THE OVERALL CONDITION IS TO CHECK THE FLUID AND DETERMINE HOW BURNED THE FLUID HAS BECOME. GOOD LUCK.
