Ford 500 - 2005 - The entire dash (all gauges) went to zero.
Is it a fuse? I hope?
There is a instrument fuse in the fuse box....
I had this same problem with my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. All the gauges on the instrument panel would go to zero as if the vehicle was off and the "idiot" lights would come on as well as the reverse lights. After replacing the cluster gauge unit, I was able to determine that was not the problem, so don't waste your money buyin new gauges.
The problem was found to be several cracked/broken wires that run from the main computer of the vehicle to the charging system. It cost me $ 190.00 for the Ford dealership to locate the cracked wires and repair them. Vehicle works great now.

There is a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) from Ford on this. The 2005 Five Hundred and Merc Montego use the same instrument cluster which has been found to have issues. You need to get a new cluster and replace the old one. It is easy to replace. 5 screws if I remember correctly.
2005 ford 500 instruments cluster problems,,,there is a man by the name of darryl turcotte on you tube with a video on how to repair this problem. the panel must be removed, cluster disconnected,,(its easy 3 bolts,, one clip in plug. The panels plastic back liner must be removed,,his video show which TWO points on the printed circuit board must be touched up with a little spot of solder,,to insure a good contact with the circuit board 's printed pathway. All the guages on the instrument panel went down but the car still drove fine, about 1 minute later they were back up again. It's happend, at various times in various conditions, about 5 times in the last week.
i ahve the same problem and they will all black out and headlights go off and reverse lights pop on
We have the same problem with our 500. When the dash goes dead the reverse lights come on. It's intermitent and doesn't seem to correspond to anything (a bump in the road, etc.). I have found that if I give the dash a bump with my hand above the instrument panel that everything comes back. I was assuming a short in the instrument cluster somewhere but we've had two dealerships and another shop not be able to find anything. It's driving me CRAZY!!
Same thing here.. Was told by dealer my Alternator was the culprit of overcharging, hmmm. Well now nothing else was an issue; no surging lights anywhere, no battery issues, car runs fine. Every once in a while the cluster in whole goes dead. (Alternator replaced at Ford 400.00 Parts and 200.00 labor.) Next time happened took back and 3 weeks later I was told the PCM needed to be replaced! 1200.00 parts and 400.00 labor! Again back to dealer issue still happening and they are still consitrating on the Charge light not going off, again. This time, "oh by the way we found thatyour 2 PCM harnesses need to be replaced and that will be another 2300.00! I am ready to tell the dealer, JUST NO! why am I paying for throwing items, expensive items, to repair a cluster that goes dead? I think the Cluster is bad but they say "No it is fine" Also cannot get any help from Ford, don't have a rental or loaner, had this car since 2008 with 14,000 on it and now it is around 90,000. Same issue and I still don't think the issue is fixed. Is there a good dealer with true Technicians that diagnos the correct issue? Over 5000.00 in repairs and the Service Manager will not spend one minute with us on issue.
All dash gauge went inop at one time. fuses are OK
Ford should be taken to court for ripping you off. They knew dam well it wasn't the alternator or the pcm. Ford is a bunch of crooks. My son's cars been doing this since day one. Drove it like this for over a 130,000 miles. No alternator or pcm would continue to work that many miles if it was bad. These Ford techs or not technicians. They can't diagnose cars. BS!!!!!!
The instrument cluster has a know issue of "cold"' solder joints on the PCB (printed circuit board). Typical fix is solder it up or if lazy replace cluster... when it works it works so of course i can say it's "ok"... but again it's a know issue of poor solder joints on pcb.... Bobby ASE Master Tech
