After startup grinding sound level 6 ( 10 being earpiercing ) goes away after warmup of 2005 dodge grand cherokee... timing is good, master belt only has a very small shine inside track...any help is appreciated at 77k miles 3.3 engine... Goodyear repair guy said no problem.... then it does it again on startup until warm again..
Is it a grinding noise or squealing noise? Your description mentions "grinding" but the description seems more like a squeal since you mention the appearance of the belt and "10 being earpiercing". If more of a grinding noise I'd suspect either an idler pulley with a bad bearing, a water pump with a bad bearing, alternator bearing, air conditioning compressor pulley, or power steering pump that is running low on fluid. If the noise is more of a squeal, then I'd suspect an A/C compressor clutch that is failing or a self tensioner that is no longer tensioning properly.
Sounds like something with bad bearings. Check in the area of air conditioner compressor or power steering and yes water pump.even the belt tightener will do that.

check the motor motor mounts for movement,
watch how far engine rocks forward or back with it running and foot on brake

Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....
