When switch is turned pump runs but wont pump has a new filter I even removed lines and tried pump is it possible for electric motor to turn but pump not pump?
Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail
i have completelt removed the pump ran it for a second outside tank have put in tank and ran w/o lines hooked up have hooked up and disconnected line at fuel rail and NOTHING only pump running but not pumping
when the fuel pump is in the tank and there is not lines hooked up does it spray gas.. have you checked the fuel filter
no it doesnt spray gas it just runs like it is out of gas if u know what i mean you know how a pump sounds when it hasnt picked up gas when u run out?
and it has a new fuel filter and both lines going into the pump are right it has a pickup and a return coming out top of pump
try the fuel pressure regulator it is on the fuel rail. if it is bad there will be no pressure
there is a regulator on the pump but I did not see one on the rail.... but why would it whirrrrrrr and not pump if reg was bad it would at least try to pump right?
no there is not one on the fuel pump. you may have a weak fuel pump
i am looking at a Haynes manual showing the pressure regulator on pump ... describing the regulatore removal and the fuel line comes up from rear and plugs directly into fuel rail which injectors are running off of I have always seen them on the fuel rail i AGREE but not this one... section 4-5 chrysler plymouth 96 to 02 repair manual
i do not have my book here it is in my garage

Hello, this can be a multitude of problems but I will try to give you a list to check and i'm sure you will find the problem. I would check your battery connections and make sure that they are tight and not corroded. Next, I would get your coil packs tested and see if they are working. Autozone offers free diagnostics and this will pinpoint an electrical problem for you. I would also check things like your spark plugs and wires to see if your plugs are fouled or if you if have a bad spark plug wire. You may also need to a tune up and replace your oil and air filters. Bad gas is a possibility and so can be dirty fuel injectors. I would run some injector cleaner through your system and see if that helps. This problem can range from all of the above to a bad fuel pump, I would suggest getting a professional diagnostic done on your car so the problem can be pinpointed and if you find one and do not know how to replace it yourself but you want to save some money I can guide you through the replacement of a part and if anything refer you to a Haynes or Chilton Auto Repair Manaul. I hope this information helps you in your endeavor and I wish the best of luck with this because I am sure you can fix it.

I see why your questioning why now for heat shield but I'm trying to narrow down the possible causes, as like you, it doesn't make sense to me, after replacing all those parts, unless maybe one is faulty. For years they used a heat shield over starter, now, not so much, but you'll have to look at location of your starter in relation to exhaust heat, and decide whether you feel it's necessary or not. As in other post , are you getting any clicking noise of any kind, when trying to start hot?

sounds like a dry coil
coils are built with an insulation to dissipate heat
in the old days they used "oil" and you knew they were almost dead when the vehicle would do just want you mentioned... die while driving and not restart until cooled down
today's coils are much different except they use a solid insulation...when this breaks down you get the same affect
after 14 years, assuming you have the original coil its a safe bet!!!
