Two posibilities, the manual silonoid(could be operated by vaccum or electric 12V) on the front axle is not operating or the transfercase is not shifting into 4H. Transfercase manual or electric ? Jack up the front end put it in 4WD and see if the front end is locking ? Wheels should spin the opposite dirrection or turn the front driveshaft, that means it is working and the problem is in the transfercase shifting into 4WD Mike n Texas

My 4x4 button on my dash wont turn on and my 4x4 wont engage . I used it yesterday, usually lights up and 4x4 engages 94 mazda b4000 le 4x4 .

Ford Rangers and Mazda b-series vehicles are the same. I would be willing to bet it is a problem with your shift motor. There is a sensor on the motor that tells the "shift computer" where it is in regards to position. The sensor has a ceramic disk that is glued to a shaft. The glue dries out and the disk doesn't spin with the shaft, so the computer doesn't know the position. You can disassemble the shift motor and re-glue, or just replace the entire shift motor assembly. It's $85 - $100 for a remanufactured unit from Napa (or similar). I just did this for my '94 Ranger, tore it apart and fixed it.

Before doing any of that I would check the 4x4 fuse in the box under the hood. The other fuse to check is inside the cab. It is on the same circuit as the warning lights (if your dash warning lights work, that fuse is fine).

Here's a guide for troubleshooting other transfer case issues.

My 2002 f 250 wont come out of 4x4 low

If you are trying to get out of 4x4 and your truck is parked, probably it would not change the gear. You have to try the following: If it is standard shift, start the truck change to second and third gear, then try shifting off the 4x4. I think the same works for the automatic transmission.

Remember go got to be driving in order to get the 4x4 off.

I just replaced the front diff accuator and it still wont shift into 4x4 i also pulled the fuse to reset it. It sounds like its working but wont shift, the 4x4 light just comes back on any suggestions?

there is an aluminum shift fork behind the actuator that has a knurled end on it.that end breaks off and will not allow the diff to lock in.you will need to remove the passenger side axle and the actuator to access.also check the transfer case shift module.also common on that vehicle.

88 ram 4x4 auto put trans in and it wont shift

Sounds like you got a bad trans. Was it used? Does it have a warranty? Can you shift it with the linkage off? Is everything adjusted correctly?

Can,t get truck out of 4x4 low range

try putting your truck in neutral and then shifting into 2 wheel drive shift on the fly does not apply to 4 low only 4 high and on electric shift models it wont shift unless your ****** is in neutral.
