Coding new remote lock

2000 model Landcruiser GXL I've bought a new remote door lock and I can't code it in. Instructions say to open door/lock then unlock doors/turn ignition from acc to on 20 times, then leave on 'off' (assume 'lock'). Indicators are meant to flash 20 times and then I press buttons on all remotes. But i never get the indicators to flash. When I try again, indicators flash 16 times, so assume I'm into some other programming mode. Can you assist? Thanking you very much in advance.

SOURCE: remoe dont lock or unlock the doors. hazard lights, indicators and horn dont work.

You might have a blowen fuze. I would check that first. If it is blowen and continues to blow after replaceing it, then you have a short somwere in the wiring.

SOURCE: 91 landcruiser 80 series gxl replacement drivers seat

You can get a replacement seat from a wrecking yard and would guess you would pay around $75.00 to $100.00 for the seat or you could go to a reupholster and have it redone like new for somewhere around $150 to $200.

Key fob not working

does the led on remote flash when pressed, if so try to initialise remote by inserting key in door barrel or ignition lockthen turning key, whilst doing this press and hold lock/unlock button. the led on dash should flash to show the key has been initialised, then remove key and test operation. If none of this works then a new remote and coding to car is needed by your nearest dealership

I can't lock the car using the remote key. the light flashes on the key but does not lock the doors

try reprograming the remote, if that doesn't work u may need a new remote these are the factory instructions.
1. Switch ignition on with a key (don’t start the engine!); leave key in the ignition.
2. Mechanically lock vehicle at left front door, using second key.
3. On remote unit, press "Open" button once. A short horn signal will sound.
he "Open" button is pressed once for programming the first, or a single,
remote unit.
When programming additional remote units for the second, third or fourth
memory addresses, press the "Open" button two, three or four times, in
one-second intervals.
Example: press the "Open" button once, wait 1 second, then press once
again to program the second remote unit.
After 6 seconds, press "Open" button once to activate the coding ocess.

4. The remote unit will now be coded, and it can be used to unlock the central
locking system. Switch ignition off.

The key must be removed from the ignition before the remote unit can be used to lock
the vehicle. The coding process can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remote units.
In between each remote unit coding, the ignition must be switched off.
