I have a 2003 duramax/allison gmc p/u with 77k miles. i was snow plowing for about an hour doing residential drives, stopped for lunch, restarted and drove 30 mpr in 4h when a grinding noise observed with loss of power, akin to a slipping manual clutch. immediately i pulled to a stop and tried 2h, but no forward motion. i tried a couple of slow deliberate shifts into nuetral to drive until i was able to move again, but i observed a check engine light come on dashboard, and a transfer inhibiter message in message center.
the truck now will not shift correctly, and cannot shift into top gear. it also has a slow acceleration from a stop, as if the torque converter isn't locking up. transmission filter has been maintained by dealer. now at a local garage, i am awaiting his analysis. could this be as simplea a fuse? or is it something else. thanks glenn
I have a 2006 duramax with the allison 6 speed with the manual shift option. once in a while when i put it in reverse it says shift range prohibited and the r light blinks, so i put it back in park then to reverse and it works fine. Then the cold weather came. It was below freezing for 3 days and i started my truck and put it in gear but it wouldnt move. it was like the brakes were held and the motor didnt have enough power to turn a tire. I let it run for a hour and finally got it to crawl forward but still was being held back by something. i shut the truck off and turned it back on and it worked totaly fine. i have a edge programmer that resets any trouble codes each time i turn the key on. two weeks later it got cold again. i started my truck and started driving down the driveway and everything was fine until i got up to 20 mph, it wouldnt shift out of first gear. i tried it for three days and wouldnt change. i then parked it in my heated shop for a day and then it worked normal again. so something was froze up and is thawed out now. anyone know what i can do to fix this issue? i dont want to get stuck out of town somewhere
Thawed it out the next morning-reset codes to standard-viola-all is well. seems ice found its way into switch@transfer case and ran the chips riot-sending tranny into limp mode. cold weather,rrrrrrrrrrrr. june can't come soon enough.
