I have a 1999 For Windstar, I have had the transmission fixed multiple times. It is in the shop right now and the mechanic is asking why the trnsmission is overheating. I do not know why.

That transaxle is one of the worst ever made,
at least from ford

I don't mean to hurt your feelings but the failure rate
is terrible, as you already know

Get rid of the vehicle

Absolutely silly a repair shop would ask you why
it over heats,if you knew the answer, you wouldn't be
there & they should know what causes overheating

SOURCE: 2002 windstar transmission schematic

I am assuming you need a schematic for this and that you've check all of the other more common things like broken linkages, low transmission fluid, etc. Other than the wiring diagrams that are found in the Haynes or Chiltons manuals, you would have to get a service manual from a dealer. There just isn't much electrical inside a transmission though that isn't covered in the wiring diagrams found in these manuals, which can be found at your local parts store.

1999 Ford Windstar O/D light blinking at 40mph i replaced all oxygen/speed sensors & problem persist what could it be?

Lol, you nailed it, dude. How do any of us find protection from rip-off "experts"?

Find a shop you can trust. Get recommendations from friends, family, associates.
Have you scanned for trouble codes? I think that's what a transmission shop would check first.

1999 ford windstar automatic transmission van won't move when shifted into any gear. makes no noise or anyting , like it's in neutral.

its time to go to a transmission repair shop. transmission is one of windstars weak link, mine did it in just 76000 miles, my advice if you want it fixed dont buy used ****** you will just have the same trouble later, a new modified windstar ****** will by fine or have it fixed by a good transmission mechanic they will put in modified parts, they will offer a five year warranty on their work. and save.

O/D light flashing, hard shifting at times

Sounds like the solenoids are not working correctly in your transmission. May need to be rebuilt. Check with your local transmission shop about this problem.

We were driving down the freeway when the ODT light started flashing on our 2000 Ford Windstar. WE pulled over, and it was gushing transmission fluid. Well, we got more fluid, and added it, and the ODT...

I would have the vehicle scanned to find out why the od light was flashing. When the light flashes there will be a diagnostic code stored in the engine computer. It sounds like the transmission overheated for some reason and vented the fluid. By the time you added fluid the transmission and started driving the transmission cooled down and quit leaking.

1999 windstar lx 3.8

When you removed the head the 1st time, did you send it in to the machine shop to have it surfaced and check for cracks? By having it surfaced, the machine shop makes to head's mounting surface perfectly flat. If you didn' have the head surfaced the 1st time, the head may have been warped causing the head gasket to fail the 2nd time.
