I have a 2002 BMW Z3 and the soft top (roof wont come down). And am not sure what the problem is in addition to this my mechanic played around with it and now instead of the gap when u raise the top by 20cm to open the roof, the initial opening gap is now 30-35cm and ontop of that its hard to close...Help...No one knows what is is.

I just had the same problem. There is a hydraulic fluid reservoir in the trunk on the left wheel well. It should be filled to the little dot inside a circle on the tank. If not, turn the T-handle on the motor, just above the reservoir, counterclockwise. Unscrew the plug with an allen wrench and fill to appropriate level with hydraulic fluid. Replace cap and then turn T-handle clockwise and secure tightly. If tank was completely empty, it will take a few lifts back and forth of the top with button to build up good pressure. Thank goodness it is a cheap and easy fix. Its kind of difficult to get the fluid in the little hole though. I used a small turkey baster.
