1996 silverado... don't know name of bolt i need for gear shift

i take it is a automatic check gearbox transmission fluid or the torque converter may be at fault

Hi, I am guessing it is an automatic transmission. Try putting the gear shift lever into a lower gear and see if it moves then. Sometimes the shift linkage gets mal-adjusted. I would also check the transmission fluid level. If it is really low, the tranny will not work either. If the fluid is really low, you'll need to look for a leak after you refill it. I am assuming that the transmission worked when you picked it up from the shop that repaired it.

not enough trans fluid...... if it slips after a trans flush reuse the old fluid its got the old clutch dust in it and the clutches will grab better....

HI, my name is Ray. I don't have any pics but I think I can talk you through this ok. First you should remove the cover from the rear differential. Have a pan ready to catch the oil. There will be a couple qts. Remove the ten or twelve bolts with a 13mm socket starting at bottom and working up. Next jack up the side you want to change and block securely. Remove the wheel, brake caliper, (wire it up as not to stretch the hose) and rotor. Now back to the center of differential. Look for a shiney rod about 3/4" diameter and 3-4 in. long. It sits perpindicular to axles and about center of gear cluster. It runs through a spyder gear at each end. Now look for a small bolt at one end of the rod that holds it in. Remove bolt with a 5/16 or 8 mm wrench. You should be able to rotate the ring gear to get the bolt in position. The bolt is very tight so you may need to hit the wrench with hammer to lossen it. once removed, slide the rod down out of cluster and place on clean surface. Now go to outside and push end of axle inward til it stops. Go back underneath and look for end of axle shaft. There is a 'C' clip which holds it in. Remove this, (a magnet works well sometimes) and go to outside and pull axle out. The seal is in outer end of housing. Remove and replace it and reassemble. Good Luck.

It sounds like you differential gear noise by your description.

first u have to disconect the drive axle. and the suport brackets. im thinking 13mm. or posibly 15mm . undo the shift cable located on the side of transmission. now unbolt the belhousing do botom first. u are gonna need a few long extensions and some one to help guide it to the bolts. when u remove the suport mounts u should be able to see the top bolts. also u need to use a flat screw driver to turn the fly wheel. and unblot all 3 of the torque convert bolts . should be 15mm or 18mm

The dealership is the only place that I know of that can unlock the radio. Unless you find a "use to be" mechanic with the procedure to unlock it. Installing the radio, research goolge, i have seen a website with info for doing that. I dont remember what the site name is, sorry.

You may need to adjust the shift linkage. As far as the roof check the fuse; if the fuse is good; it could be the switch or the convertible motor.

it duse sound like the clutch . but i would try bleeding the slave clinder frist. it may work . but i think you will have to replace the clutch. good luck

There is no need to put it in N position, in fact it is ******* the drive train parts to do that, just leave it in D all the time when going forward.
