Question about 1998 Ford Explorer
It will start if you keep the RPMs at 1500-2000, once it warms up (5 mins to 25 mins) it seems to idle and run pretty good.
You have a bad idle air control valve. its job is to have motor rpm high until the motor warms up then turn it back to normal.

what codes are present? If it is lean codes P0171/P0174 problem is most likely the orings leaking between upper and lower intake manifold if this is a 4.0L

check fuel pressure regulator.+ vacuum lines going to it look see if gas in vacuum line.if so regulator rupture.
