Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Since your check engine light is on, you need to take it to Autozone or Advanced and have it scanned. They do this for free and it just takes a minute. Your light is on because your computer has detected a problem with your car. There are over a hundred different things that can cause the light to come on, this is why you need to get it scanned. This way, you know what to change and your not throwing your time and money away on parts you don't need.
on the back of the engine are some vacuum lines that get damaged.either that or the throttle position sensor is not working properly.it is located on the throttle body.
Ey sounds like you have a bad alternator so you should test to see if the alternator is still good or bad by let the engine running then pop the hood opened and disconnected the ground cable off from the battery terminal so when you do that and if the engine dies then you have bad alternator but if the engine still running after disconnect then your alternator is still good
without a fault code its impossible to diagnose. try pep boys or aamco or auto zone they will pull the code for you, usually for free. The code will relate to a sensor or area to be fixed. This will save you money and needless parts . post the code or codes so we can help
Did you turn on ignition after you plugged in the scanner?
