Don't know the Suburan but suggest you check the wiring connection to the overdrive solinoid as it will be on the outside of the overdrive casing & open to all sorts of wet & muck.
Also check the oil level.

Hi Jim, I have taken this to a X-mission person and they had no suggestion except to drive it till something breaks, then we can fix it...Is there someplace I can find a pic of what you are talking about and where it is located? Thanks for the suggestion !! Yours,

    ps...it has the 700 transmission.

Hi Tom. I don't know the Suburban but the switch should be on the transmission. Your local Chevy dealer should have it's location on it's parts computor or try to get a workshop manual. Leaving until it breaks could prove costly! I still think that the problem will be a loose or dirty connection to the switch.
    Regards Jim

I have a 2011 chevy trans when i stop it will slip and will not move at all have to shut the truck off wait10 sec then put in gear to move when i stop again i have to do it all over again any ideas

Yes, no problem. Your trans is not dropping out of overdrive until you shut it off. Computer just naturally puts it back in at speed. The control for that is a second connector on your brake light switch, if the brake lights aren't working, switch is bad or needs adjusted closer to the brake pedal lever. This switch takes power off the trans and out of overdrive. Fix that before you burn up your trans friend. When the overdrive goes out completely, trans will go into limp home mode and you'll only get up to 3rd gear and won't shift any higher.

If the overdrive on my 05 Pontiac aztec is out... does that mean the transmission is going out and it all needs to be replaced or is it something simpler?? Harder?? Is it worth fixing???

the over drive is controlled by a servo/solenoid that sometimes fails
It could be a TCM problem
It is not an indication of a failing transmission unless you have more indications you have not mentioned and if diagnosed by an accredited transmission shop should be fairly cheap to fix.
It is worth fixing

a worn trans--but check fluid level and condition--add a trans cleaner like lucas --sea foam or amsoil and see if it improves--make sure car is not overheating and cooling lines are ok--get car scanned--disconnect batt fora few and see if issue subsides--thats an electronic trans

1995 chevy regular cab 4.3l v6 2wd wont go into overdrive

Sounds like it is stuck in second gear. Overdrive only drops rpm by a couple hundred. In third gears you should still be less than 3,000 rpm.

Second gear is a default gear when the transmission is in limp mode. Is the check engine light on? Does it shift if you manual shift through the gears with the gear selector?

I have a 2000 gmc sonoma with a 2.2l. truck shifts through all gears fine but in overdrive running at 55 or 60 the rpm will jump between 1800 and 2500 but runs most of the time at 2500. If i work the gas...

Sounds like TPS (Throttle Positioning Switch) They develop "hot spots" or wear spots usually at throttle positions that are commonly used alot IE: cruising speed. When they get hot spots they fluctuate looking for solid connection. Replace TPS.

Terrano gearbox keeps jumping out of overdrive and

Nissan Terrano's have an Electronic Computer that controls the gearbox. It is hidden behind the left hand rear Speaker box, right hard up against the rear seat back rest. This system controls all functions regarding the gearbox and it's rev rates. If your vehicle is shifting back on long drives then it is possible that the computer sees any slight increase in revs as a desire to "Kickback" the gearbox to a lower gearing, hence it dropping out of overdrive. Unfortunately a gearbox specialist with a computer "Plug-in" is needed to fix this, but it is fixable. This problem should not be too expensive in comparison with a new gearbox.
