I just took the cluster apart on a 2002 gmc savana thinking the same thing replace the bulb due to code p0650. NOT! first off the bulbs for abs, service engine, check engine, security, 5 bulbs all together are all soldered on main board. the bulbs were all good. they do have mini transistors as well so maybe the problem lies within. i am not an electronic genius so if your in the same situation i can tell you right off, only the guage lamps, signall lamps, etc. can be replaced.

Code 650 is for a problem with the check engine light circuit.
It could be something in the computer, but chances are the bulb in the cluster is out. You may have to remove the cluster to replace the bulb.

Computer code P0650

P0650

Description
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Output drive moduels (ODM's) are used by the powertrain control module (PCM) to turn on many of the current-driven devices that are needed to control various engine and transaxle functions. Each ODM is capable of controlling up to 7 separate outputs by applying ground to the device whish the PCM is commanding ON. Unlike quad diver modules (QDM's) used in prior model years, ODM's have the capability of diagnosing each output circuit individually. DTC P0650 set indicates an impropervoltage level on the output circuit that control the MIL.

My 99 Jeep Wrangler failed inspection for a P0650 mil malfunction. Is this a wiring problem or a bad bulb/fuse?

DTC P0650 represents an issue with the actual check engine light (malfunction indicator lamp). Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). The powertrain control module (PCM) controls the lamp by grounding the control circuit via an internal switch called a driver. The primary function of the driver is to supply the ground for the component being controlled. The driver has a fault line which is monitored by the PCM. When the PCM is commanding a component ON, the voltage of the control circuit should be low, near 0 volts. When the PCM is commanding the component control circuit OFF, the voltage potential of the circuit should be high, near battery voltage. If the fault detection circuit senses a voltage other than what is expected, the fault line status will change causing the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to set.

A DTC P0650 indicates a problem with the circuit to the actual check engine light itself. If the fault is current, check if the check engine (service engine soon) lamp comes on when you turn the ignition on, If not, we will need to pull the engine control computer and ground the wire that goes to the light. If the light comes on, it is a failed pcm which must be replaced and reprogrammed. If not, it is either the circuit to the cluster or the cluster itself.

Good luck.

I ha ve a 650 code on the computer how can i fix that problem

Check your fuse box in the engine compartment, look at fuse #25 to see if it is good, if not replace it.

The error code P0650 is a malfunction indicator lamp circuit, malfunction conditions. The possible causes are the MIL control circuit is open, or shorted ground to the system. It is possible that the PCM has failed, and it can either be flashed, or replaced. Remember to use genuine Delco products for optimal service.

What does code 1-p0650 mean?

P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Malfunction

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel. When the ignition switch is turned ON without engine running, MIL will light up. This is a bulb check. When the engine is started, MIL should go off. If MIL remains on, the on board diagnostic system has detected an engine system malfunction.

Possible Causes:
  • Harness or connectors (MIL circuit is open or shorted.)
  • MIL bulb may be faulty
