Starting issues i 93 jeep cherokee country 4.0L has intermittent starting problems. I it will not start on the first few times you try at all. i try starting in park or nuetral. only after doing this several times will the starter engage. i have good voltage and everything. and the starter sounds strong when it engages. I thinking starter solenoid but others say nuetral safety switch. But when it does start, it start in both nuetral and park. any ideas????????????????

ASE mechanic.
A couple of different scenerios. first could be the ignition switch not suppling voltage to the starter. You might have good battery voltage at the starter, but not the trigger voltage from the ignition. thats the small wire on the starter. OR if i cranks a couple of times and then starts it might be a crank sensor for those engines are known for that sensor problem. keep me posted

Check the starter seolonoid, sometimes it clicks that way indicating worn contacts. Have it replace.

93 ZJ 4.0L has intermittent fuel-pressure drop when starting

You have a good theory but haven't finished testing so you can verify it...check actual fuel delivery when in no-start...also probe the pump wire on the pump side of the harness and see if you are in fact not getting power to the pump all the time. (also in no-start). Don't test after it gets started, or testing will tell you what you already know...It runs fine once started...tests will then tell you it's fine (you know it's not) Problem itself could be anything from a bad connection somewhere to a balky pump.

1996 Jeep Country Wagon. Replaced fuel filter and

does your jeep run rough? idle is real low? and when you are driving and push the gas hard it doesnt want to move? if so it is most likely the mass air flow sensor. i had to replace that 2 or 3 times on my 1999 jeep cherokee

I'm experieince intermittent starting . One day the jeep will crank & start, the next day when I attempt to start it I get nothing.

Its the starter solenoid. Remove 2 bolts and the lead wire and pull the starter out. most local parts stores can test the starter for you, but if the problem is intermittent it might not show up during their test.

On my jeep, after pulling the starter, I disassembled the solenoid. The actual failure of the solenoid was the electrical contact. I cleaned off the corrosion and have had no problems for 40,000 miles.

93 Grand Cherokee 4.0 trouble starting in cold weather

Welcome to the forum. Your question has to many variables. Cold weather out here in Cen Cal this time of year is mid 40s. Is the problem when the vehicle is cold as in ovrernight but starts ok when it is warm? Does it crank OK but seem like it's not getting fuel? If you hold the throttle slightly open, does it start OK?
