You didn't mention what size engine you have, so i assumed its a 1.8L. thermostat is located at the housing just above the waterpump on the front of the engine. its #5 in the attached link http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CJ11&mospid=48077&btnr=11_1393&hg=11&fg=35

1997 bow z3 1.9 motor turns over will not start

If it got too hot the engine may have been damaged. You will need to have a cylinder compression test to make sure the engine is ok. Did the coolant get all over the engine? Some electrical connections may have gotten wet. Make sure it is getting fuel. Spray a little starter fluid into the throttle body.

My electronic immobilizer fuse (38) on my 1997 BMW Z3 kept blowing. I kept replacing it but now it won't crank and the fuse isn't blowing.

Fuses shouldn't keep blowing and that was the cue to get it looked at. You either need to get it towed to the dealership, or contact a mobile auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose the electronics. This is not the type of issue you can fix yourself unless you spend $3.5k to $5k on a bi-directional scanner.

1996 BMW z3 1.9 just blew top hose off radiator.no previous overheating problems. Could it be stuck thermostat?

Hoses wear out , replace it . That hose is under a lot of pressure and heat and everything wears out and has a life. I would say that was a helluva hose to last that long and would suggest you look at all your hoses and belts especially if they have never been replaced.

Where is the thermostat located for the 1997 bmw z3 roadster 2.8 engine

It is on the front of the head, facing the radiator.
Follow either big radiator hose, they are both attached to the thermostat housing.
Your thermostat housing is probably plastic. If so, don't re-use it because plastic housings of that vintage shrink and warp. Buy a new plastic or aluminum thermostat housing.
On a car this old, consider replacing every plastic or rubber part you touch, unless you know that the part has recently been replaced. I have a couple of '97 328s, and I never put a plastic or rubber part back on the car without replacing it. Saves a lot of time and repairs down the road.
