97 Jeep cherokee sport won't idle

I have a 97 sport that won't idle on it's own and will die sometimes when you slow down. If you keep on the gas slightly the idle surges up and down. It doesn't do it always but enough.

Sounds like the idle air control valve...buy a repair manuel and it will walk you through the steps to change it...it's not hard.

Hello;
Several things can be causing your problems. irst check your fuel pressure. Also check vacuum hoses for any leaks. Any codes for additional diagnostics?
Thanks;

Please help my 1999 jeep grand cherokee has been dying out. As soon as I start to slow down or I'm at a red light it wants to die out. When I give it gas its fine but once again when I begin to slow...

sounds like a fuel problem. when was fuel filter changed last! if filter is ok, remove and clean the idle air control it may be sticking. this is what controls idleing, on todays cars. ( IAC ). good-day ! there is another thing you can do. clean out around throttle plate of throttle body and make sure aircleaner is ok. this should help!!

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited will idle real low when at slow speeds or stopping and will sometimes go all the way to zero and die. i've had this happen to me while turning and taking my foot of the gas...

first will say that you have a good amount of gas in the tank.second o2 sensor does not contol idle or does the map sensor.the tps sensor and if it has a idle air motor.they can control idle other than the computer.

I have a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 liter that won't idle

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

Get a code test done and see what you find...sounds like a bat throttle position sensor but without proper testing, I would not run out and buy one,

97 Jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl. idles down to 0 and dies.

any leaks in intake or exhaust upstream of the sensors, sparkplug condition and engine controls/sensors for out of range operation (including fuel pressure and condition of regulator)
IAC should be cleaned and checked as this can cause poor idle and shut down. I'm not saying not to change O2 sensors, but unless everything else if OK, it probably won't help.

Having trouble keeping my 98 jeep grand cherokee running

i recommend cleaning the throttle plates. they are located unter the intake hose form the engine to the air filter housing. if you open them with the engine not runniong you will see they will be covered in carbon. use a good carb cleaner and a rag to wipe them clean

2000 jeep cherokee sport 4.0 dies want idle

This has happened all of a sudden?
It is sounding like it is starving for fuel...

First we will check for bad fuel. A GOOD Gasline Antifreeze can get the impurities and water out of the Gas. Get a bottle and pour the whole thing in the gas tank, bounce the car around to mix it with the fuel. Start it and let it run for a little while so see if it smooths out. If does not help then look at replacing the fuel filter as it may be clogged.
