Coming home one night and the car just stopped totally

Battery is fine, cleaned the spark plugs thinking maby the timing?

    does engine turn over quickly ? as if no compression ? the fact you say engine stopped suddenly and make no attempt to start ? may i suggest you check the possibility of the cam belt has snapped? if yo turn engine over and have an assistant check to see if cam is also rotating ? or simply remove oil filler cap and see if cam is rotating ? if not then cambel has gone NOW ? these engines are considered to be safe in the uk that is to say pistons do not contact valve so a new belt kit will remedy but as for your engine ?? you do not say type/ cc/ or milage i wish you luck in whatever you discover come back with any more info / advise if needed?

Is it geting gas check fuel pressure and see if it has fire to the plugs if its the timing it will sound funny when you turn the car over to crank i hope this will help you

Have you checked your spark plugs and wires? They may need to be replaced or the plugs may need to be cleaned or they may be gapped incorrectly.

Won't start
Year make and model. Is the security light staying on/flashing? Pull a spark plug wire and see if it has spark. That could be a coil/s or crank sensor.

Car cranks but no start
no year or model, really?
ok ill answer for a Generic car (hopeless)
1: no spark and all EFI systems kill fueling at the detection of no spark (stopping the burning fire, and 911 call,etc.....)
i must stop, no year, wow.
if car is 1996, and newer my answer would be....
check all fuses in cab and engine bay for blown.
scan - all newer cars the scan tool is $9 (ask) or fleabay it your self.

spark , no engine option stated, must i guess it all? wow.
but each year, generation has newer spark designs.
totally radically different by GEN.
ok if its a 96"
the scan tools shows zero rpm cranking, and maybe code, 340 or 355, if yes, the Ckp is bad with zero rpm, in fact RPM IS CKP.
CKP means crank position sensor.
some engine, (lots) can die with a CMP dead.
CMP is the Cam angle sensors. (some, not all)
the FSM covers no spark , why not read it.

or post car spec, and we can post EXACT answers.

No spark on a 1998 Chevy venture
Hi orvil brad hear I would check the ing. fuses you have at least one and maby two in the inside cab fuse block, and also one or two in the engine bay fuse panel, there is also a relay located in the eng. bay panel, also you may check the ing. wire that goes to the coil system, This wire will have no 12volts until the ing. switch is turned on then it will show 12volts. It has a habit of coming loose at the coil sometimes. Good luck

Check for spark at the plugs and check the fuel pressure. Also remove the spark plugs and check for fouled or wet plugs. A plug that is saturated with gas will not spark. Clean the plugs and dry them off and try to start. If all looks good then check cylinder compression to check for a blown head gasket.

Why would my truck shut down ,, and wait 15 min to cool off and be able to restart ,,and get warm again and shut down again
next time it duz it ... check for spark at the spark plugs eneyone will do .. allso check for pulse at the injector plug .... DO NOT USE A TEST LITE ...... if u don't have a injector noid lite use a meter ... if u no spark and no injector pulse the crank sencer is bad ..... if u have injector pulse and no spark .. the cink switch is bad maby shorting when warm .... happens a lot

97 honda civic wont start.
If the car has over 100,000 miles on it, you may need to replace the distributer. I don't think the bad gas caused this issue I think it may just be a coincdence. But if you already changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor, I would definetly check the distributor.
