Driver door unable to lock or open using the remote - 2002 Galant

try this first, make sure all doors are locked. Insert door key in drivers side door lock and turn key left for 3-5 seconds then turn to the right with a little pressure. open door. Insert key in ignition and turn to on ONLY! wait at least 30 seconds, then turn key to start allow to idle for a few minutes. If problem persists, the remote is not functioning properly. contact a locksmith for reprogramming or replacement. A lock shop will be cheaper than the dealer! Hope this helps you!

it is not the actuators, try a different remote, you may have an issue with the car security system/body computer not functioning on the unlock driver door command, one press of remote is unlock driver door and 2 presses is unlock the other doors.

A part inside the door known as the "Door Ajar" sensor switch is defective, replace it. It is attached to the door latch in most makes

it depend upon the program of the alarm system.the mitsubishi alarm system is programble or u can check the alarm system control under the steering column and check the central lock controller,the main actuator on the front driver side door

-If the problem is that keyless remote does unlock or lock door, but the lock lever still move when pulling up and down by hand. Door still open and close with both inner and outer, then might the driver door lock actuator is bad. The actuator lock and unlock the door for you when using the keyless remote or door lock/unlock switch.

-if you try using the key to unlock door and the key doesn't turn the door cylinder, then you have a bad door lock cylinder.

-if the lock lever doesn't move up or down and you can't open door using any handle, then you got a bad lock latch assembly.

there is a motor placed inside the doors for the operation of the central lockin system. when you open the door by key this motos is activated and all door locks are released. your problem may because of this motor is failed.

cause of the failure
1.the wire going to the motor may be chopped off.
2.the junction box connecting the wires may be damaged.
3.fuse may be blown out.
4.motor itsef damaged.

so please check weather power is coming to the motor using multi meter. if the power is not coming to it then the problem is with the wires. if the power is coming to it then problem is with the motor.

It may be as simple as a failed door switch. It would appear one of the switches has failed "open" keeping the light on and not allowing the locks to lock. Check each switch to see if you can find an issue with one, perhaps the plastic plunger broke and when the door closes it will not open the switch.

Sounds like the door latch mechanism (inside the door frame) is faulty.

You'll need to either fix yourself, or have someone do it for you.

needs a new door lock actuator usally built into the door latch

sounds like the battery to me. if not it would be the ETACS.

yep i just checked and there is a TSB out on it.
