YES, I BROUGHT A NEW ETIOS LAST MONTH AND I ALSO HAD SUCH A PROBLEM, 5 TIMES I TOOK MY ETIOS GD TO THE TOYOTA SHOWROOM, BUT THEY COULD NOT RECOGNISE THE ISSUE. THEY DID CULTURAL DIESEL,WHICH THE VEHICLE HAD IN IT, BUT AFTER HALF HOUR THEY FOUND IT IS OK. THEY DID SULFUR TEST ETC, AND SAID IT IS OK, BUT AGAIN IT CAME. ANYWAY RIDING IN A VEHICLE LIKE THIS WILL BE ADVENTUROUS IN THE TRAFFIC JAMS. WHEN SMOKE COMES YOU CANT EVEN SEE THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES IN YOUR REAR GLASS AND I SAW THE FOLLOWING MOTORCYCLISTS ARE PICKING THEIR NOSE. I DONT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF SMOKE IT IS. I AM REALLY SCARED WHETHER IT IS DANGEROUS TO MY KIDS AND MY FAMILY IN MY CAR SHED. PLEASE COME UP WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE, AND PLEASE TELL ME IF IT IS A MAJOR COMPLAINT. SOME EXPERIENCED DRIVERS SAID, IT MAY BE LEAKING AND MIXING OF ENGINE OIL IN TO THE CYLINDER.

The white smoke occurrence is due to unique Vehicle usageconditions like slow speed & Short trips drivingthe catalytic convertor is not able reach its optimum reactiontemperature. As a result, the Hydrocarbon accumulates in the Catalytic Converter. After sometime, once the saturation limit is attained, the accumulated Hydrocarbon
starts burning inside the Catalytic Converter. During this Chemical Reaction,Momentarily the white smoke is seen in the exhaust and is normal

SOURCE: thick white smoke coming from exhaust

I would think this will be a blown turbo.

These are fed by a small oil pipe and if the unit overheats (due to wear) - this oil fill feed directly into either the inlet manifold - or the outlet - exhaust.
If it is spilling oil into the hot exhaust - you will get a thick white fog. You can confirm this by placing a clear glass bottle or jar in the exhaust stream - and see if it gets a thick coating of oil on it. If it evaporates - it's water, if not - or feels oily - new turbo or overhaul.

Best get is sortd sooner rather than later - as you may be able to save most of it for an overhaul rather than scrap it if badly worn.

SOURCE: White smoke is comming out

can you smell the smoke, does it smell like anti-freez or oil, if anti-freez there would be steam come out or maybe some water out of the tailpipe, you may have a head gasket problem, or crack somewhere in the head. if the smoke smells like oil ,you may need a valve job.your valve guilds may be let oil seep into the camber when setting.when you start the car up the oil is burnt off.

I have a 1998 dodge avenger it runs and starts right up but it has a raddling sound ,thick white smoke comming from my tail pipe and oil all over my motor what does it sound like ? A blown head gasket ,...

White smoke from the tail pipe is caused by moisture in the engine being burned off. Some is normal on a cold engine but the rattle and amount of smoke you describe are a sure sign of a blown head gasket allowing coolant to enter the cylinders.

My 99 volvo xc is blowing thick white, bluish

This is not good. White smoke is usually coolant, but the deposits on the plugs indicates oil related issue. Major exploritory surgery is in your future.

Start with a leak down test, and based on the results of that, your next step will be more clear.

Sorry for the bad news, but you already knew that, with the smoke report.
