Overheating after 45min-1 hour of driving

92 4 runner v6- had the heads replaced and it stays a good temperature for at least 45 min and then the temp gauge almost pegs out. I went to check the thermostat and it had been removed, fan is not electric, new hoses, water pump is working properly.

Thanks for the response. more info.I have had the radiator flushed and like I said there is not even a thermostat in the car. You can take the radiator cap off and take the hose off and see the water pumping. In previous experience with other cars when the water pump or radiator is bad the car would overheat within 10-15 min, that is what has me stumped it takes sometimes over an hour to overheat. The fan is spinning but I will check the fan clutch.

HI RickyGorbett! The first place that I would look is the Fan. Check the Fan Clutch and make sure that it is Engaging. Replace that Thermostat, You could actually have a Clogged Radiator, If you think it might be you will need to Remove the Radiator and take it to a Radiator Shop and Have it Rodded and Dipped. Let me know what you find out! Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help that I can get! Thanks!

No Problem on the Help! Always happy to! I know what you are saying! Usually (Back in the Day) LOL We took the Thermostat out when we were Racing to Unrestrict the Coolant from Flowing. But, Those were 600 to 700 HP Motors! Try a Cool Thermostat and I really Think that the Fan Clutch is Skipping. That would cause the 1 Hour Overheat Prob. Let me know what you Find out!

I have a 92 Chevy s10 starts up no problem but once it gets warmed up shuts down and won't start for several hrs. New fuel pump ignition module cap and rotor iac .codes 15 & 45 keep coming up . v6

15 is coolant temp sensor reading low temp. 45 is O2 sensor reading rich. Older GM vehicles do react to bad temp readings. I would replace it first. This can cause the rich condition for the O2 sensor.

92' camry v6 started overheating ,noticed moister and drips from tail pipe. Blown head gasket or ? Also doesent appear to circulate in radiator untill I remove thermostat. Was going to R&R waterpum

A failed thermostat stuck closed will cause overheating. Test that item by boiling it. Nearly all car thermostats will have opened fully at 100 deg C. There may also be a number stamped on it to indicate its opening temp. You can keep track with a kitchen thermometer with a range above boiling.

A blown head gasket will often cause very quick overheating, and you may also see white bubbles like dry ice in the radiator neck. There is a simple test for combustion gases in the coolant, which any competent mech can do for you. The kit can also be bought from Autozone etc.

It is possible that the water pump has corroded away internally and is not circulating water, but if the car has always had antifreeze added, that should not happen. My Camry V6 water pump was still good after 220000 km. If you do get in there, replace the timing belt while you are at it.

A faulty temp sender in the block may also cause overheating, but only because it does not start the radiator fans when it should. You would notice if they were not running when the engine got really hot.

Tailpipe drips don't tell you much, as there is always moisture in the exhaust gas.

1990 Toyota Cressida overheating, already changed thermostat and radiator flushed. It doe this after driving for a period of time or miles, about half hour 45 min

For many of the 90's and 2000's Toyota various models - Camry, Tacoma, 4 Runners, Corolla, and some other models overheating is usually caused by temperature sensitive fan switch on the radiator not operating. Electric fan on the radiator should operate when temp above 200 degrees. Less often the control relay 90987-03003 is defective. Check if bubbling in the radiator smells like exhaust. That would indicate a blown head gasket. A jumper wire from your marker light positive to the lower contact in the fan control relay socket will operate your fan when parking lights are on. The larger vehicles with more powerful radiator fans will need a hefty jumper from a headlight positive to avoid overheating the lighting wiring. Make sure the engine is off and warmed up to check the radiator core with your hand to see if it is getting circulation. If it is all cold the thermostat might be stuck.

I have 92 pajero iwas driving home when temp

Your coolant all leaked out, or your thermostat locked shut, and the engine seriously overheated. Some makes will not start again until the thermostat has been replaced (the Japanese have always been too cute for their own good, and program such things into the vehicle computer) and the computer reset, and sometimes this simply kills the engine altogether. Proper maintenance is a must!
