1987 GMC VanDura electric fold-down seat

Hello, I just purchased a 1987 GMC Vandura 2500 conversion van.  My issue is that the owners manual was lost and I can't figure out how to fold down the electric rear bench seat. There doesn't seem to be a switch, but there are several places in the wall of the van that seem like something could be plugged in. Any ideas?

I have the same year and model. The toggle switch for the back seat/bed is on the box behind the drivers seat and under the side window. There is also a cigarette lighter there. It is a black toggle switch that you have to hold through the entire process (up or down).

If it's anything like my 1994 Vandura, you have a small panel of rocker switchers above the rearview mirror for turning your interior lights and other gadgets(tv, vcr, etc) off and on.

The leftmost switch on mine moves the electric bench seat up and down, *and* forward and back. The trick is that you have to hold it down to make it move.

With mine, even though there are four actions:
    - slide seat forward
    - slide seat backward
    - fold seat down
    - fold seat up
there is only one rocker switch.

So what you do is hold "up" on the switch and see what it does. If it slides the seat in either direction, up for your van is for both sliding forward *and* back. To do the opposite direction, just wait a second then press the same button the same way a second time.

If up makes it fold, it's the same principle. Hold the rocker switch depressed in the up position to make it fold up. Wait a moment and repeat to make it go down.

It wasn't intuitive for me either but once you know and play with it a bit it makes sense. Probably better than having four switches up there anyway :)

    Good luck!

Need to find out my engine size in my 87 2500 gmc vandura

There are two ways to identify the engine you have. First way is to locate the white emission ID label located under the hood. This label is white with black print, about 2" x 4" and will say something like "this vehicle conforms to such and such for model year 1987...." and somewhere on it it will also have the engine size in liters such as 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, or 6.2 Most of these vans came with the 5.7L [350 cubic inch] engine. This label usually is on top of the radiator shroud, bottom side of the hood, or one one of the supports [it varies] but should be fairly easy to find unless it's been removed or lost somehow. The second way to determine which engine you have it to find the 8th digit of the 17 digit VIN number. The letter Z means you have a 4.3L, H is a 5.0L, K and M are 5.7L engines, and J is the 6.2L diesel. Hope this helps out!
