2008 Ford Edge engine surge while stopped in gear

Clean the mass air flow sensor and inspect the hose from the throttle body to air filter box for cracks or air leaks

as there are no codes to help we'll have to start with the basics , when was the trans fluid last changed ? if not recently i'd start with that , also put a fuel addative in the next time you fill tank , get one that covers the catalytic converter as well as the valves etc keep me posted if you wish

run fault codes to determine why the transmission is staying in gear and not down shifting as the speed slows. Check for TCM problem. If nothing shows then have a pressure test done to determine if there is a mechanical fault in the box

This is an old warning issue or procedure, I had the same problem a few years ago with my Ford Taurus 1995, if rear stop lights not work, you wont be able to moved the shift out of Parking (P); this is to avoid driving without rear stop lights. If no lights, normally a fuse is blow out or all bulb lights are gone, please check.
There is an alternate procedure to be able to drive your car, but, avoid driving without Stop lights. Turn the ignition key to the point before starting the engine, this release the lock for the driving wheel and transmission shift, press the brake, put the shift in Neutral (N) and start the engine. Im not sure if your Ford Edge has the no key starting button or fob, there is a procedure to release the locks and be able to drive, should be in your drivers manual, but, again; the intention is to avoid moving the car without Stop Lights. Try shifting to nuetral at stop signs for now. Will it keep running in gear with you foot on the brake? How about with the parking brake? You may have a simple vacuum leak at the brake booster.

Its a common fault with the fords.The air throtle idle valve needs to be replaced.Or you may call it a tapper valve.

TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER.IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY

check the swiches at the brake pedal their should be two. one for brake lights and one for transmission dump valve it prevents the engine from loading up at lower rpm. ie stoping at lights while in drive

Don't know if this will help but once had a Buick that kept doing this. Took it to the dealer several times but couldn't find the problem at first, finally replaced a small spring in my cruise control and that solved the problem.

could be a bad break boster causin a vacume leak which will cause the truck to rev when u apply the brakes
