Check battery connections and battery fuse. Battery may not be large enough for the size of your van

if the problem continues you might want to take it to a shop

SOURCE: won't start

The starter contacts inside the starter solenoid have worn down.
You can replace the starter or replace just the contacts in it to save $$$.

Unhook the battery.
Remove 12mm nut from starter and remove cable and signal wire.
Remove two 14mm bolts holding the starter in.

Now you can either replace or repair the starter.

To repair it, remove the 3 8mm bolts on the back of the solenoid and remove the trapezoid metal cover.

Pull out the plunger and spring

Remove the 12 and 14mm nuts on either side ofthe housing and push the bolts through; you can now remove the copper contacts inside the housing.

These are available at your Toyota dealership for around $10.

Reassemble in reverse order.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 GMC sonoma 4.3 v6 that will not turn

Try another starter and also try turning the crank bolt with a ratchet and socket to make sure that the crank isn't frozen in place. Do not leave the keys in the car when doing so. You don't want anyone messing around in the truck when trying that!

do you have a dvom you need too test for voltage drop across the starter + and - ciurcuit check for voltage from the + term. of the batt and the + post of the starter solonoid with the red lead on the batt. there shoould be no more than .2 volts while cranking do the same from the - post on the batt and the metal suface of the starter while cranking you will likely se a big jump in voltage thats resitance advom measures differance there should be none try cleaning the terminals and tighinig them check your connections at the starter and 12.6 is a charged batt less than 12.2 is not enough

I am trying to get my 1985 GMC Vandura 2500 to start, but the steering g wheel is locked and the key won't turn to try and turn it over. What would be a cause of this?

If you vehicle is parked on a slant and the wheels are slightly turned, the pressure from the weight of the car may be forcing you steering wheel to bind. Try tweaking the steering wheel in the same direction that the wheels are turned using your left hand and at the same time try turning the key with your right hand. Tweaking the steering wheel takes the pressure off of the ignition switch. If that doesn't work, try a different key if you have one.

93 gmc vandura 3500 box van won't start. I have power, installed new starter and ignition switch, but the starter won't kick.

Some vehicles Red (hot lead) have an inline fuse. Also check for other fuses for the ignition. If you have an alarm system, make sure it is disarmed. That can be done by using the key to open the down some times.

Van won't restart right away

Again, see my answers to the fellas above- its the computer, behind & underneath the dash, real ****** to get to, got to pull entire dash. Find a mechanic who is goo w/ GM's & get him to help you bypass it. YouMAY have to change the distributor, too if you have an EFI (electronic ignition) module in distributor head (I forgot that part above)--not all of them did. Mine did, mechanic had one on hand.

1992 Suzuki Sidekick won't start

Are you in gear and not in neutral?
Could be your starter is dead, test your battery with a Multimeter and ensure that you're reading at least 12.5 volts.

If you're reading 12.5 or less 12.3 then your battery is in fact dead.

You could have a blown starter relay, fuze or a low battery causing a ticking sound. Your starter may have shorted out and the ticking you hear could be the starter solenoid.

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

My 1997 Plymouth Voyager won't start sometimes, the radio changes by itself, the interior light doesn't always come on. Have had a new transmission, new battery, tune-up and spark plugs and had the...

When it doen'st start, you will need to check for spark, fuel. If it doesn't have one of these, you will need to start tapping the relay related to starter, and fuel pump. The best way to determine which ones they are is to get a manual, but another way is to place your hands on the relays that you think maybe related and have someone turn the key on. The correct relay will click. Now, you will need to see if the same relays are clicking during the no-start. If any of them fails to click, tap them with a screw driver. If it starts then, replace the relay. It maybe interfering with the radio since this is an electrical event.
