How did you check the fuse ? look at it ? Use a DMM - digital multi-meter an test for B+ voltage at the heavy gage wire on the back of the alternator . The connector that plug's into the alternator ,that has three wire's in it. This should have B+ voltage as well . Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to read one ? Free wiring diagram's here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click charging . Click the search button then the blue link . Test don't guess !

SOURCE: Battery charges when idling but not at speed. 81 datsun

This sounds like the altenator belt is loose. When the altenator is under a load the magnetic field causes the altenator to require more fource to rotate. At higher engine rpms the belt can be slipping on the altenator pulley. There is one other possibility I can think of and that would be that the voltage regulator is faulty and and causing an overvoltage at higher engine speeds and therfore opening up the field circuit to prevent the altenator from over charging the battery this is a safety function of the regulator. I would check the belt first.

SOURCE: Battery dosn't charge, alternator/voltage adapter test's good.

Did you test the Alternator on or off the truck? It might be a problem with the control system to the Alternator. The regulator need a battery feed to work, It is usually ran through an alternator fuse.

I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer I change the alternator and battery the car cuts off and it flashes real quick on the message center that there's something wrong with the charging system trying to...

Disconnect the battery and charge it; then reconnect the battery. There are 2 systems which can cause this. The antitheft and the battery drain protector.

The antitheft can view a very low charge as an attempted theft. The battery drain protector is an automatic shutout for any circuit that is putting too heavy a demand on the Alternator. This feature can actually disconnect a charging system if it is making the Alternator work too hard.

This is why the battery must be fully charged. Since components have gotten flimsy the drain protector is trying to keep the Alternator from overheating.

Other causes for blinking are reversed polarity and relays that are kicking out due to bad contact points. If there is anyway to borrow a scanner, it may identify the defect.

2009 Mercury Mountaineer Premier 2wd Battery would not hold a charge even off the vehicle max would be 10.2 after drain down. Replaced battery had vehicle checked with alternator comp, said voltage re

IF a battery drains down when out of the vehicle it indicates an internal fault in the battery (bad cell)
Most vehicles do not have anything in the CPU to refer to the alternator or charging system unless it is really late and upmarket model where the ECM provides regulation for the alternator output.
you can check the out put yourself by attaching a mulitmeter across the battery terminals and set on dc volts . Start the engine and see the volts at around 2000rpms. turn on the head lights and re-chech the voltage at 2000rpms
the voltage in both cases should read 14.5-14.7 volts
If it is lower or over that there is a problem in the regulation of the alternator output and should be checked by an accredited auto electrician

Is the battery light on the dash board working? If the light does not work the alternator will not charge, it needs the power from the light to energise the rotor.

Installed new battery, battery light keeps coming on showing no charge.

Take it to local parts store and have them do a FREE charging system test. I suspect a bad alternator or something as simple as a loose or glazed fan belt

How do i check my charging system for my 2003 Mercury mountaineer

1st check the belt to the alternator. it should be in good condition and free of cracks. twist the belt so you can see the underside to check. if the charge light is on, this is a pretty good indicator that you have a bad alternator. if not get a cheep voltmeter and simply set to d.c. volts and put the leads on the battery terminals. voltage should be over 13.5 but not over 16
